Key remote stopped working with very intermittant flashing. I changed the battery and now it is constantly flashing and still does not work. The key on its own will open the doors and start the car.
U need to re-set it coz it could have lost the code in it

You need to get the key re-programmed by Audi. Same thing happened with my A4.

As far as the central locking issue, it sounds like you need to replace your central locking pump. You can buy them online.
I have a 95 A6 and I am in the process of looking for a new central locking pump.
The part number may be 4A0 862 257 J, that is what it is for me.
There are directions online as to how to change this yourself once you get the part. If you buy from the dealership the part is $500.
Be thankful your child locks weren't engaged. We haven't been able to open our back doors since the pump went out.

Sounds like you are having problems with your built-in alarm system. Like most systems in your Audi, you can read the error codes stored in the controllers. It takes a tool normally only a dealer has (VW or Audi) or an adapter like the VAG Com. (Google it)
I also think you can disable the alarm system and just use the key.
Could the lock button on your remote be stuck? Use a different key/remote. (leaving the suspect key at home.) The keys/remotes can be taken apart....

unlock car with key/hold over for 30 secs then lock car with key/hold over for 30 secs then unlock with remote hold button down for 30 secs.this should reset system.
