Examine your keyboard to ensure your "Number Lock" key is not activated. This activation is indicated by the key being lit up. If the key is activated, press it to deactivate the lock. The number lock key will deactivate an entire segment of your keyboard Start, click Run, and type regedit to open the Windows registry editor. In the registry, open the below folders. Within the keyboard folder, you should have a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2. Below is the explanation of each of these values.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Control Panel\
Keyboard\
0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

SOURCE: function keys of sony VAiI laptop is not working.
you will need to install the drivers as your computer has been formatted.
If you have the driver back-up disk then you can install the drivers from that disk or you can get the driver for making your hotkeys work by going to
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select...=24&NAVDISP=pc and entering in your model number, so you can access sony driver downloads, user guides, Frequently asked questions, technical specs, product alerts, and other stuff about your laptop.
let me know if this worked or not.
