Examine your keyboard to ensure your "Number Lock" key is not activated.

This activation is indicated by the key being lit up.

If the key is activated, press it to deactivate the lock.

The number lock key will deactivate an entire segment of your keyboard

Start, click Run, and type regedit to open the Windows registry editor.

In the registry, open the below folders.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Control Panel\
Keyboard\

Within the keyboard folder, you should have a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2. Below is the explanation of each of these values.

0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

hope this helps

SOURCE: function keys of sony VAiI laptop is not working.

you will need to install the drivers as your computer has been formatted.
If you have the driver back-up disk then you can install the drivers from that disk or you can get the driver for making your hotkeys work by going to
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select...=24&NAVDISP=pc and entering in your model number, so you can access sony driver downloads, user guides, Frequently asked questions, technical specs, product alerts, and other stuff about your laptop.
let me know if this worked or not.

My wireless wont turn on with the Fn and F2 key.It was recently formated so i dnt knw if thats the problem

If your computer was formatted then may be a posiibility it doesnt have the drivers for the wireless card. Or may be its disabled from BIOS.
Fisrt make sure drivers are installed else you need to install drivers from dell CD or get it from dell website http://support.dell.com

To check BIOS settings.... Turn off computer Turn on and hit F2 to enter BIOS setup Find if Wireless switch is disabled Enable it incase its disabled or set it to default. Save and exit restart computer....it should be working now.

I am unable to activate wireless card. I have to press Fn f2 key but the f2 key on my keboard doesn't work. I tried connecting a wireless keyboard (it doesn't have Fn key), then pressed Fn on laptop, F2...

It could be a drivers problem... Unistall the drivers from the device manager and install a fresh one from the dell website.. Try pressing the FN+F2.. Still no go.. Try to check whether the keyboard is working.. Still no go - resaet the Wireless card... Still no go.. Replace the wireless card..

Formatted and downloaded all the drivers graphics not recognized

Hi,
Usually driver installation for branded PC's are much tedious than the assembled one. Download the drivers for your laptop model from Dell website and try to install in the following order as one driver is dependent on other drivers.
1. chipset
2. Microsoft UAA ( download it from here )[important step]
3. Audio driver
4. Graphics driver
5. Modem driver
6. Wireless device driver
7. utility drivers like function key drivers, synaptics mice driver, etc
Restarting your system in between each of these steps is mandatory.
I hope this is helpfull to you.

Fn birghtness key not working

If the "fn" key works with other "fn" command buttons it may be the drivers. Your machine came with a CD of drivers. I would visit Dell's Support website, plug in your "Service Tag" number (found on a label on your machine) and download the latest if your CD is missing. Re-install these drivers. Look into the "Dell Quickset Utility."

FUNCTION KEYS ON DELL INSPIRON 8000 DON'T WORK AFTER INSTALLING W

Hello,
There is no driver required to use the function keys. You just need to use the function (fn) like a shift key. Hold the function (fn) key and then press the according function key.
