Hi I had a white foam ring fall out of my DVD drive. I assume it helps turn the DVDs. DO you know how I would put it back in?

It is the ring that comes in a new CD or DVD spindle. It was stuck to a disc that you put in the player and you didn't notice it.
I would guess that either the drive made a horrible noise when you tried to access the disc or it would fail to read or burn as the disc was off balance.
Throw it away and look at the first disc from a new spindle before you put it in. It happens to everyone once or twice. It can damage the drive though so if it didn't kill it feel fortunate and use caution in the future,

Cheers.

We are having this problem. How do we get the ring out? This is a pc on the floor.

  • Anonymous May 25, 2012

If you can still open the drive, see if you can reach it with a long set of tweezers. If you can open the drive but can't get the ring out, leave the drive open and carefully remove it from the computer and gently try to shake the ring out. If it still does not come out, it is jammed in there pretty good and you may need to replace the drive.

Try media player classic a software that can play dvds and cds
why the DVD wont play might be for different reasons... 2 broad category software / hardware 0.I ll assume its a drive that can play cds and dvds 1.software- u must have a problem with the drivers. Drivers tell computer's brain how to connect to each of its organs(parts like monitor keyboard DVD drive etc) if this is missing its like ur brain doesnt know how to move ur right hand...u ll need to reinstall the drivers then... u ll get the drivers from the website for the laptop Hardware 2. next try using a lens cleaner for ur drive it usually is an air can and a disc... try that ... 3. If still the problem hasnt been solved... the trouble maybe with the drive physically which means u d have to replace the DVDdrive...

My DVD writer suddenly stopped recognizing DVDs. If I put a DVD - R in the drive, the drive spins but never reads a disk. It doesn't see a blank disk either, just ''no media''. The device manager shows...

The best bet and I have had several customers bring systems in with this problem is you have to edit the registry file and get rid of the upper and lower registry values once you do this save and reboot the machine it is just like a new drive was installed worked on all of theres one however came back to me twice and it turned out it was a conflict with other installed hardware. Hope this helps If you simply go to google.com and type clear upper lower registry values and the name and model of you drive as above it usually gives you a step by step and happy computing. Foam ring came out of cd drive

Hi,

if it was sitting on top of the disk.
it must have been attached to the top-underside of the dvd drive.
this would usually act as padding or a buffer.
the only way, is to open up the drive, and re-fix or glue to the centre of the drive lid/top.
heres your only other option:-
If the front drawer is removable, or detachable. cut a piece of double-sided sticky tape. to the exact shape of the foam ( washer ) we,ll call it. stick to the washer. remove the other side of tape. place the washer on the centre of an old CD. manually eject the cd drawer ( Powered Off )
place the sticky sided washer on the centre of The CD. and place in the drawer. use a spatula or thin Knife, under the CD. to lever the cd, and sticky washer, back to the ceiling/roof of the drive. where it came from.
ensure it,s central. This is just a suggested Thought. And will require some thought before attempting it.

My a60 plays some dvds and not others - why?? I am not using rental copies!!!

are there any common characteristics of the dvds it won't play? Use this link to download and update your codecs.

http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Codec stands for encoder/decoder keys which basically instructs the computer and the media player how to properly record and playback media correctly.

Now that your codecs are updated, see if the problem continues. If the issue persists, (i am assuming you already checked the surface area of the dvds to see if they were dirty, scratched or damaged) then double check the specs on acer's website to see the compatibility limitations on the player. not all dvds are created equal my friend... newer video compressions, track layering, and hi-def technologys may be beyond the capabilities of your laptops current device. the good news is, upgrading the optical dvd drive to work with the latest innovations is not difficult and its not going to set you back.

let me know what happens - if i was able to fix-ya, let us know by submitting your feedack.

HL-DT-DVD-RW GSA H60L DVDE DRIVE

I just posted a reply to another message that is almost the same. Could be you. It is the foam pad ring from a new CD or DVD spindle that was stuck on a disc that you put in and missed it. It does not go back in the drive. It goes in the trash.
The ring is used hold the discs solidly on new retail spindle. The noise was the drive strugging with an unbalanced disc.

If you caught it right away and nothing hit the laser or lens you are ok. Try reading or burning another disc.

Cheers

Dvd will not play movies

I'm assuming the system says that there is no disc and you've tried factory DVDs (self made ones can have intermittent results on different burners).

If that is the case, this is probably a problem with the drive's DVD laser. There are two different lasers in most (probably all) combo drives. One for CDs and one for DVDs. You need a new drive.

Planetary ring

ok im going to take a shot at this its been a while since ive been in a school kitchen
with the planetary ring its supposed to be tapped in make a jig by getting a 2x6 board and 2 2x4s they dont have to be long screw the boards together with the 2 2x4 standing 4 inch up across from each other about the size of the blender head
the wood is to support mixer while on its head and to keep from teetering around
put down down a piece of foam
put the mixer on its head upside down
now you have to find an old plastic sturdy made cup the size of the ring its gotta be able to take a beating (the cup)
but not a hard beating this will help in seating the panetary ring
now get another piece of foam
glue to top of cup let dry then trim around the cup evenly out side and on the inside leave a little foam over the inside edge
place ring on planetary drive where it goes put cup over ring make sure the cup matches size of ring
now get a wood rubber or small pin hammer and tap lightly on the cup till the ring sits itself back into position this is the safest way to place the ring
use a little appliance greese on inside ring lightly to help ease into place

now if any part of the ring is bent i dont recommend placing of old ring i would suggest buying a new ring for mixer
