Since today is a sunday no one is at work to help....so the problem is....the roller/beater bar? won't turn under power ( the motor and wheels do) so there is NO beater action ( it will turn, it isn't stuck and i have 2 new belts) and the lever that switches between hard surfaces and carpets has fallen into the machine ( the knob came off so when i disassembled the unit the lever fell into the machine), i have gotten it apart to that point (without breaking anything) but am unsure what/how it is supposed interact/do in relation to the lever inside that creates the tension on the v-belt...when i reassemble the unit the hard/carpet lever slides freely and does nothing....and there is NO tension on the v-belt...( there don't appear to be any broken areas on the selector lever) is there a manual /drawing that shows this area and that i can use or a least look at???? how can i fix this without taking it to a shop ?? 35 years of electrical construction should allow me to repair darn a vac :>)....i hope.... i just lack the knowledge (of how it is supposed to function)...any USEFUL input will be gratefully accepted......please help...thx!
SOURCE: Brush Roll belt won't engage on WindTunnel self-propelled
When you had the brush roll off, did the ends turn freely? If not then the brush won't turn and the belt will just slip. You would have to replace the brush roll if either of the ends are frozen. Other then that you would have to remove the top cover to see if there any broken parts, there is a spring loaded asm, it has a black wheel that will push the V belt when it is in the carpet setting and the handle is in the down position, it could be jammed so the roller is stuck.

your floor adjustment spring is broken there is a plastic slider and clip if it is broken the height adj will not work you should get a new vacuum because this repair can cost as much as a new vac.also this is a common problem with the hoover brand I would get a sebo or an oreck they have a great warrentty and you will more than likly never buy a other vac.
