Auto garage door opens will not close not the sensors

Liftmaster garage door opener will open and will not close. Had a lightning strike replaced the sensors on both units. One now works the other will only open and not close. Holding the button does not help close it. Rechecked sensors made sure they are clear and the green lights are on. Walking past the sensors after hitting the button does make the unit lights flash. any ideas?

Look at the back of the motor unit and see if that little light is flashing a code. Post the code.

The unit is in the lock mode, push and hold the lock button in for about two seconds and the green LED should stop flashing. Your remotes should work.

On my chamberlain liftmaster garage door opener I have to hold the button on the wall to make the door go down how do I fix that

That's easy!....What you,ve got is whats called in the garage door business as constant hold down! You physically have to hold the button to make the door go down because there is a problem with the infrared sensors, Check both sensors on the sides of the garage door to see if the indicator lights are on ...if not check to see that they are aiming at each other and you will be able to tell if they are by the indicator lights , if they are not aligned your door will not come down! That's the safety feature built in in the event your infrared cameras don,t work so you have to physically stand there to make shure nothing is under the door as it is coming down! Also check your infrared sensors wires to the garage door opener in the event one of them came loose from vibration of the machine ! One other possibility can also be that your sensors where shorted by a nearby lightning strike ...the sensors have small computer boards in them that could get affected in the event of a nearby lighting strike so it will send a surge that can fry them , also I have seen when a house has become flooded the boards also short out ...so if you hav,nt had lightning strikes or floods you can eliminate those senarios, but my guess would be they are not aligned so check that first! Glenn installer of over 30,000 gaarge door openers and still counting! Hope this helps you

I had a lightening strike at my home. Since then, the garage door does not function with wall switch or remotes. when i press the switch, light comes ON on the door opener and i hear a click but nothing...

Well, I don't think that disconnecting the garage door from the garage door opener would affect function.

The lightning strike could have destroyed the circuitry inside the garage door opener, seeing that it won't operate with the wall switch or remotes.

It's likely that a board was fried by the lightning which would render the garage door inoperable.

Replace the logic board. I have seen this problem in the field. More often than not it's due to power surge or lightning strike.

Sears Craftsman 1/2hp Garage Door Opener

Thats one of the symptoms of a lightning strike or a power surge. Without actually being there I would suggest replacing the back-board. But as with lightning strikes and power surges sometimes other electronic components could have been damaged as well.
