On this weird dryer the blower is not mounted to the motor. Instead a fancy blower is mounted away from the dryer and requires a second smaller belt to drive it. What goes wrong? The drive pulley for the blower often falls off the motor. Locktite is recommended to keep the blower pulley secure to the motor shaft or this will be the result:
MAYTAG 2 BELT dryer innards

Hi

I believe that everything else is fine rather it is the thermal fuse that is located inside the rear panel to the exhaust duct that is bad and should be replaced. If you want you can test this fuse for continuity and if it is bad then it should be replaced, as it cannot be reset. If the fuse is fine then it can be due to the control board that is bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

SOURCE: Dryer runs put is not hot. The vent hose was

Hi tim3891...
I know you have tried some of these...but
************************************************
Here are a few things to check:
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Check to make sure you are getting full 220 Volt power to the dryer, if you are then:
Check your Wiring
Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. If this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.
Check the Door Switch
If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. Check for continuity you should have none with door open, and should have a reading when closed. If not replace the door switch.
Check to make sure you heating problem is not a lint build up in the discharge hose or the dryer,as this condition can cause heater/thermistor problems such as overheating of the heating coil leading to failure of the coil and burnout of the thermostat/thermistor due to overheat.
Remove the back/or front just under the door of the machine and try to locate the air duct going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside/outside the air duct you will find the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistors. Once you have located the heating coil, remove the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it is faulty.
If the heating coil is ok, then:
You can check the thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuse one at a time by removing the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape.
If the coil heats up then replace the thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuse as it is faulty.
If you have an ohm meter then you can test the thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuse,
then you do not have to tape the wires together as described above.
To test your thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuse remove the wires from the thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuse and check for continuity, if you DO NOT have continuity then replace the thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuse.
DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST AS THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE BECAUSE YOU HAVE REMOVED THE SAFETY.
Check your blower wheel to make sure it is secure to the shaft and not plugged with lint, socks, etc.
If the thermal fuse overheats the dryer will not operate. It's located on the blower housing. It cannot be reset.
You can test it with an Ohm meter or continuity checker, remove both wires from the thermal fuse and put the test probes to each of the ends of the thermal fuse, if no continuity then replace the thermal fuse.
A vent clogged with lint can cause it to overheat.
Right after replacing a dryer element, always run the dryer on 'air fluff' / 'no heat', and go outside to verify there's plenty of air coming out your vent system.
If the vent's clogged, that new element can burn out very quickly.

I have a LG condensing dryer it gets warm and tumbles but does not dry the clothes

i would check around, behind the air intake grill, usually on the back, close to the exhaust port, and make sure its not filled with dust and lint. ensure that the exhaust is attached to a proper vent tube, so that the lint in the exaust doesnt come back into the intake port and clog the unit. if it is extremely dirty, i would try to take the cover off and, not only clean, but check the heating element fuse inside. if your lucky , its just an air circulation problem or that heating element fuse.

Why would my crosley dryer get really hot but the clothes don't get dry

If the dryer is getting hot (the heater element is working) but the clothes aren't drying, it suggests that there is insufficient air flow through the dryer. Remove the exhaust tube from the back of the dryer. With the tube removed and the dryer running, check for hot air (lots of it) flowing out the exhaust vent of the dryer. If there is good air flow, check the exhaust tube for lint build-up or a clog that is blocking the air from flowing through the tube. If there is no air coming out of the exhaust vent with the exhaust tube removed and the dryer running, it suggests that the problem is with the exhaust fan inside the dryer.

Kenmore Elite gets hot, dries clothes but the metal piece in the back of the dryer is burning holes in our clothes.

This is URGENT.

What you described is a precursor to a dryer fire.!!

Dryers work this way....they have an air intake that allows the heated air to come in, circulate around the clothes, and an air outflow that the heated air flows out of. Look in your dryer, you will see the two separate intake and outflow behind grills onside the dryer. Look for burn marks. Open the dryer and look straight back to the intake and outflow grill where the hot air flows in, then out of the dryer.

What happens when your exhaust system is blocked is that the air becomes superheated, and (if a gas dryer) flames can come up to or into the dryer through that metal part you are describing. If electric, it is superheating and burning the clothes. I would bet your exhaust is clogged somewhere. Fix this before using the dryer again.

You can call a repairman to do the cleaning and check this out.
OR try to handle it yourself with a few easy steps.

Check the flow of air where the exhaust comes out, usually outside your house or apartment. If the flow is weak, its a definite sign of a clog...usually in the exhaust duct that is usually a flexible metal tube that attaches to the bottom of your dryer, then winds its way outside to a vent....but a fire can come from something else being clogged.

Try this:
1) Clean the lint trap
2) Replace the exhaust ducting (they are very cheap and easy to install on each end)
3) If you can, with the dryer disconnected form power, take the back panel off (it's very easy) and look for dust and lint buildup that can come from a clogged vent, then vacuum it off. If you see burned lint there, then that is proof you have had some fire.

If the above is not your problem, you need an expert to come and diagnose this.

Good luck

My Maytag atlantis MDE7600Ayw takes nearly 3 hours to dry clothes. The back silver metal grill is very hot and it still tumbles, no weird sounds. Any suggestions?

sounds like your vent is clogged or there is lint clogged around the blower wheel. Make sure to check outside where it comes out and be sure all the exaust tubing is free of lint clogs.

My dryer runs about 30 minutes and then will shut off. After you give it a minute to it will turn back on but when it is in constant use it happens very frequently. It doesn't matter what heat setting it...

sounds like the safety thermostat (Hi Limit Thermostat) is cutting your dryer off. This usually happens because of hi heat (higher than normal) which is caused by clogged exaust.
Check your dryer vent to ensure that is is completly free of lint. Clean the lint from the lint trap all the way to the output of the exaust outside your dwelling, ensuring the dryer has a unobstructed flow of hot air.

Thermostat and fuse has been changed in dryer. Still taking a very long time to dry clothes. Model is an electric Crosley cde6000w.

remove the vent tube and start the dryer, you should feel hot air, most of the time it is a restriction in the vent tube, sometimes below the lint trap gets clogged too. If no hot air is coming out or very little then you will need to disassemble the unit, here is a website in case you need to take apart the dryer, Tim:

I have whirlpool dryer that the heat seems to kick on and off it is gas dryer

If heats for a few minutes then cuts off (heat) , then the 2 coils on the burner valve are probably bad . OR check the vent hose to the outside for good air flow . Sometimes , a dryer is pushed too far back , and it kinks the vent hose . If coils are bad , when dryer cools down , then restarting , cool coils will heat again for a few minutes , then stop heating till they cool off again .

Electric whirlpool dryer turns & heats but does not dry

The following link explains how to troubleshoot a dryer no heat problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r630242-dryer_runs_but_not_heat

Pay particular attention to the section that discusses proper dryer ventilation. The fact that you don't see any lint collection in the lint trap could be a symptom of a dryer that is clogged, or an exhaust vent clog. An easy way of determing whether or not the problem is with the dryer, or the ventilation, is to remove the exhaust vent line from the back of the dryer and attempt to dry a load as normal. The air flow coming from the back of the dryer should be forceful and warm (about 140 degrees). If this is the case, the problem is NOT the dryer and may be attributed to something in the ventilation ducting from where it leaves your dryer to where it exits your home. An inspection of the vent ducting should be done to confirm it is clear and free of clogs or kinks.

If the air flow is weak, then you have a clog INSIDE your dryer. An inspection of the dryer blower fan housing should be done to ensure the fan is turning unobstructed and there are no clogs. If the air is cool, you probably have a failed component in the heating circuits.

Read through the link I provided and let me know if you have any questions. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore Dryer Model 110.73952102

Yes, It is usually on the heating element tube. Don't just replace the fuse. You must find out what caused it to blow. You probablly have restricted air flow . Usually this is a clogged duct pipe or outside vent. This can also be caused by trying to operate the dryer with the door open. Before replacing the fuse, take the duct off the back of the dryer. Clean out what lint you can , turn on the dryer and see if you get good air flow. Next check the vent pipe for clogging and check the outside damper. DO NOT USE FLEXIBLE PLACTIC DUCT PIPE. It is a fire hazard and almost always clogs up fast. Another possible solution is that if it's an electric dryer, If the element burns out it can short out against the frame and cause it to overheat.
