Be carreful about newer updates....sometimes this hot releases comes with problems...i think wait should be the correct decision...then if nobody got problems with it..try the updade as well.
Check out the cables of your internet conections and if your pc is acting like a server and sharing internet connection maybe the firewall is blocking your PS3 update... Good Luck!
80710723 Possible Port Error - Try opening ports , TCP port: 80, 443, 5223 and UDP port: 3478, 3479, 3658. or add Ps3 to DMZ
You really might want to try creating the connections again on your PS3 system on the same modem/router you are using.
Just re-configure you connection settings and see if that helps.

I insert the socom confrontation cd start the game and the game needs an update to 1.20 ...so I press x for the OK option ... I am getting 1% every 1 minute at best and nothing at all at worst and even if I wait I get the 80710723 update error ...
I have tried hooking up directly to my modem and downloading time seems to speed up to 1% every 40 seconds and then slows way down and gives me the 80710723 update error again
are there any solutions or numbers I can call for serious help on this enraging issue?

I have the same problem. I went on christmas vacation and when I came back I needed to update my ps3. It wouldnt do it because of "An error occurred during the download operation. (80710723)" so I updated it using a USB. Then I tried to play Resistance 2 and the same thing happend. I called Playstation Support, they had me do a hard restart and restore all settings. I still had the problems and they told me I had to send it in. It is out of warrentee so I would have to pay 149.99 and said no. I then restored the PS3 which took over 3 hours but it deletes everything. I then tryied everything again and got "An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network. (80710B23) and (80710092)". I don't know what else to do so I am leaving it alone for now.
