Newly installed transfercase in chevy s10 now won't shift correct

94 Chevy s10 4x4 5sp 4.3L just installed a different transfercase and now RPMs are very high over 35mph. A couple noticeable symptoms.
1. When in 5th gear the dash light says to shift like it can be shifted further...sounds like it should be based on RPMs
2. Floor shifter isn't aligned and when it says its in 2wd location, it has no drive and appears to be in neutral. The rest of the position work, but I'm guessing maybe its in 4wd low and that's why the RPMs sound so high, but that does't explain why it says it can be shifted after 5th gear.

Looking at all your probs, my guess is you have the wrong transfer case! It may be one for a diesel! Frankster016

Can a 94 chevy cheyenne transmission interchange with a 97 chevy silverado tranmission

Will it physically fit? yes. Will it be a direct replacement any everything hook right up and plug right in? If we are talking about an automatic then no. 1994's wiring was completely different than the 1997. Can it be made to work? possible, but I believe it would be more trouble trying to make it work than if the correct transmission were located and installed. If it is a cost issue where he has a good trans out of a 1994 he might see if a salvage yard will do some partial trading for the correct trans.
