No, you do not need 3 cartridges or anything like that. Some cartridges have chips. Yours do not. If the light keeps blinking it means that one of the electrical contacts on the cartridge has blown and now the printer doesn't recognize it. Try printing something, you will get a message "problem with color cartridge" or "color cartridge missing". That means that the printer doesn't recognize it. I suggest you buy a new one. Or, if you have an old one, try putting it in and see if the light still blinks.
If the Resume
light continues to blink and the print cartridge cradle does not move to the right side of the printer, try these solutions:
Remove
and reinstall the print cartridges. Verify that the print cartridges
are in the print cartridge cradle before pushing them forward into
position.
Verify that no obstruction prevents the print cartridge cradle from moving freely on the rod.
Verify that the vinyl tape has been removed from each of the print cartridges.
If the problem persists, contact HP Customer Care.
Printer manufacturers include chips inside the catridges. When the same cartridge is used the printer reads the chip and finds that you have refilled the cartridge and returns the error. The simplest way to get around is to have have 3 empty cartridges and rotating them one after the other. This way you can fool the printer and get around the check!
