Lens error I sent in the camera to a certified Nikon repair center that has quoted me a price of $225.00 to repair. It needs a new lens mechanism and some minor adjustments and cleaning. My dilemma is whether at that cost, to trash the camera and buy a new one, or shop around for a repair shop that can do yhe repair at less out of pocket cost.

How can I repair the lens error message on my Nikon Coolpix S6800 camera?

Copied from Nikon's Service & Support Page:

Having a "Lens error" message display on the camera's LCD display indicates a problem with the camera lens mechanism. This situation generally requires that the camera be sent to a Nikon Service Department for repair. Before doing this however, be sure to check these situations below:
  1. One possible reason for this error is if the camera is switched on and the lens unit is prevented from extending. The camera will struggle for a second to extend the lens, then report the problem. Inspect the lens for any obvious obstruction, then turn the camera off, then on again. Usually, simply switching the camera Off then On again is enough to correct this problem.
  2. Remove and recharge the battery. Retest.
If this does not help, then we regret the camera must be sent to our Nikon Service department as there are no user serviceable parts on Nikon Coolpix cameras.

My cam fell on the floor, and ive seen its lens misaligned.i cant use it anymore ....on screen,,,, it appears LENS ERROR....pls help me,,,im in laguna area,,,and i dont know where to find nikon repair...

Your camera lens is already misaligned, so that Lens Error occur, it will not disappear unless the lens is disassemble, aligned the mechanism of lens ( the proper synchronication of mechanical parts) and assemble.
If you cannot do it, send it to the your nearest camera service center, call them first if they can accept repair on your Nikon Coolpix S210, how much, if repaired how many months will be the warranty.
I hope my advice help you.

Dropped camera on lens and now it wont open properly. says "lens error"

Unfortunately the lens has been damaged in the fall seizing up the motor or gears, the repairs would exceed the cost of a new digital camera.

Lens error message, lens partially open

Hello

Unfortunately a "lens error" message is not something that you will be able to fix. This error indicates a system failure and requires the camera to be sent in for servicing and repair.

You may find it more cost effective to purchase a new camera as opposed to the repair price on your current camera.

New Nikon D90 with 18 105 lens ring broken

the repair is not expensive, should be around $200 or less, provided that you did not damage the internal glasses and mechanics and sensors. You will need a receipt to repair it at Nikon USA, or goto an authorized repair center to get quote.

Lens Error on Nikon Coolpix L3

Sometimes removing the batteries for a day may correct the problem temporarily. But the real problem is really in the lens mechanism. "Lens error"can only be repaired by Nikon or an authorized repairman. I sent mine back in Dec. 2007. It was repaired free of free of charge under the warranty. It was fixed and returned very fast.
The same problem just reoccurred and I sent it back to Nikon this very morning. They told me this is not a problem with this model, but I beg to differ. My internet search revealed that this apparently is a problem with many Nikon lens mechanisms.
