SOURCE: OVERCLOCKING

Hi, On other motherboard models of Asus, similar problem was corrected by: 1. Updating the BIOS; 2. Actually overclocking the FSB to slightly higher than default (say 170 or 175 from 166, 140 to 150 from 133); 3. Slightly increasing the default processor voltage supply by increments of 0.05; 4. Replacing the 3.0 volts Lithium battery; 5. Replacing the memory to next higher speed; Never had problems like this with MSI, ECS or Intel boards. Hope this be of some idea/help. Post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

It will probably be your cmos battery that is flat and losing the saved settings, this can be located on the motherboard, it is a flat disc shape (CR2032)

SOURCE: Do I really need a floppy disk to do an upgrade bios?

Hi dragon512,
mewms & I both know you are a bit green. Doing a flash on your board will most likely kill your bios. Only people with a bit more technical know how attempt flashing a bios.
Neither of us knows, at the moment if your bios even needs to be flashed.
So before you jump lets walk a little...........
If you have windows XP home installed & it is not completly updated when you press the reset button on your case there is a good chance your PC will not shut down or restart like a WinXP Pro system will. Win XP Pro will shut down window correctly.
XP Home will cut windows off & restart your PC. That is why you are getting;
Press F1 to Run SETUP Press F2 to load default values and continue.
I'll bet you when you press F1 windows run's checkdisk every time!
If you want to restart your computer you click the Start button, than click shut down. A pop-up loads in the center of your desktop & you click what you want your PC to do.
Shut Down or Restart or Standby. Than you click on it.
I promise if you stop touching the reset button on your PC and let windows do the work for you.
Your PC will run just fine.
A bit of information about Asus. A new (updated) bios cost $5.00.
The call to Asus to order the new bios will cost less than $3.00.
Shipping will cost you about $1.50. Far less than a floppy drive or a USB drive.
Asus number for a new bios: 510-739-3777
Turn on your monitor, than turn on your PC. As soon as you see video display press the Pause/Break key on your keyboard. That will freeze your system so you can look at your screen. Listed there is the bios version. Write is down on paper.
Than go to Asus for your board. Click the link I have posted:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P4S800D-X&SLanguage=en-us

Click the + sign to the left of BIOS. Check what you have written down to what is on Asus web site. It is recommended never to flash a bios unless there is something a new bios will fix. Keep that in mind.

If you have more questions feel free to ask.

Good Luck & Kind Regards.

Restart your computer

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key
this will vary depending on your computer and operating system

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

this will set the boot order

hope this helps

if this fails you might try some of these

ALR PC: (F2) or (Ctrl)(Alt)Esc)

AMI BIOS: (Del), (F1) or (F2)

AST, Advantage, Award, Tandon: - Ctrl + Alt + Esc

How do I restore my pc back to factory settingg

1) Turn on your computer. Right away there will be a black screen. You can restore factory settings without a CD, too. This will reset your BIOS.

  • 2) Press F1 when the black screen appears; you will enter the setup configuration mode. You will be presented with a menu.

  • 3) Select Restore Factory Defaults. Your computer will do all the work for you. As with the CD, this process may take several hours.

  • OR

As soon as your computer is turning on press the F10 key and it will take you to the system recovery screen, click on the advanced option and click Destructive recovery and click next. WARNING: before doing this backup anything on your computer you want to keep pictures, videos, music etc.. this will delete everything that did not come pre-loaded from the factory, so if you have pictures of Aunt Fae's Class reunion you should probably back those up if you wanna keep them.

How do I re boot a toshiba l505d-s5983. It starts up says toshiba the goes to a black screen with a little line in the corner? Nothing else Please help

If the screen on your TOSHIBA fails to come on or goes black, it can cause quite a panic, since the monitor is one of the most expensive components. Some A215 models, however, have a problem with the basic input/output system (BIOS) -- a chip on the motherboard that controls the computer hardware -- that causes the PC to freeze and the screen to go blank. To fix a black screen on the TOSHIBA Satellite, perform some basic troubleshooting steps in Windows Vista, then upgrade the BIOS if the steps fail to fix the problem.

1.Press any key on the keyboard to wake the computer. If the computer does not respond, hold down "Fn" and "F1" to check if the instant password feature is enabled. If a prompt appears, input the administrator's password and press "Enter."
2.Hold down "Fn" and tap the "F7" key to increase screen brightness if no prompt appears.
3.Hold down "Fn" and press "F5" to swap displays if the computer is hooked up to an external monitor. The TOSHIBA has several options to cycle through, so it might take several tries to find the correct setting.
4.Hold down the power button for 10 to 15 seconds to turn off the TOSHIBA. Remove the AC adapter from the power jack.
5.Close the lid and turn the TOSHIBA onto its face. Release the battery lock and slide the accompanying tab to eject the battery from its compartment.
6.Touch a bare metal surface to keep the battery safe from electrostatic discharge (ESD), then pull the battery out of its compartment.
7.Leave the battery out of its bay for 15 minutes. Return the battery to its compartment and lock it in place.
8.Turn the notebook over, open the lid, plug in the AC adapter and press the power button to turn on.
9.Log in to the computer as an administrator, open a browser and go to TOSHIBA Support. Select the A215-S7422 from the "Product Support" link.
10.Click "Downloads." Select your operating system, then click "BIOS." Click the BIOS link, then click "Download Now." Save the file to the desktop.
11Double-click the EXE file and follow the on-screen instructions to auto-update the BIOS. The computer will automatically restart when the update is complete.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

If you get into BIOS SETUP,
use the "arrow" keys (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT)
to highlight the 'Load BIOS defaults' menu-item.
Press ENTER to apply that option.
Use the arrow keys to select "Save and Exit from BIOS setup".

Trying to reformat my PC but can't get into BIOS set up.

    Hey,

Seems the screen is slow to start up, right after pressing the power button, keep tapping on f1 or f10 untill the bios screen or something else comes up. that will definitely get you into the bios and dont mind if the computer starts to beep, slow down a little and keep tapping.

    Thanks,
    Ekse
