THE DVD READER NOT WORKING

When I put a disc in the DVD drive it shows that it is working, but nothing comes up on the screen. My computer is only two years old and came with an internal DVD-Drive. I have tried to find a program via the internet to repair ?? the drive and all I get back is programs I have to downland and pay for. I don't mind paying for a program if that is what is required but would like to make sure that is what is needed.
Thanks

Remove the dvd from the machine completely and boot the machine so it thinks there is no dvd installed, boot into windows and let it boot all the drivers etc, after this shut the machine down and put the dvd back in and reboot, if you are using vista try put the machine to sleep then wake up again usinig the on/off button. hopefully this will sort the problem out

good luck

My computer will turn but it only shows a blank screen with a flashing dash in the top left hand corner. Can you help?

Insert your system recovery disc to repair your startup.

1. Change your Bios to boot from disc:
When your computer powers on, hit F2 (on some computers, F8 on others). Use your arrow keys and move to the right to your BOOT option. Hit the down arrow until you select your CD/DVD drive. Look at the bottom of your screen, and it should say to change the option hit F7 or F8. Use the specified keys, and move your CD/DVD drive above your hard-drive. Save your settings.

2. Boot from your disc. Insert your system recovery disc and restart your computer. Let the recovery disc load. If the option comes up to hit any button to boot from CD/DVD, then hit any button. Once it loads, it should come to a spot where it wants your language, then select the option "Startup Repair". Click on it, and let it repair the startup. Restart your computer, and hopefully it will boot from your hard-drive correctly.

Hope this works.

P.S. If it continues to boot from your recovery disc, then using the same method in step 1, go to your bios, and move your CD/DVD drive below your hard-drive.

When i put a dvd in the dvd player it just comes on screen saying theres no disc

Try cleaning the lens with a CD/DVD cleaning kit that you can buy at a local eletronics store. If you have tech skills, open the player up and clean the glass eye reader lens with some rubbing alcohol using a Q-tip. Make sure the DVD you are using is not too scratched up. If it still don't work after you cleaned it and tried different disc then replace the optical reader drive

Troubleshooting pdv-0800

The usual reason for a drive to report "No Disc" is that the Reader eye is dirty or past its servicable life. this will be shortened in a Smoky or Dusty environment, A Cleaning disc (Preferably wet and dry) in the drive may solve the problem if the drive is dirty, if not then a replacment reader or drive are the only options.
If the Player is still within warranty I suggest you send it n.
