How do ID an old Tecumseh Engine with a bad name plate?

Is there any way to identify the model number etc, on an old Tecumseh engine whose name plate in deteriated? I know B&S stampes info. on the cover but I'm not sure about Tecumseh.

The engine is on a 1970's era Snapper 308X rear engine mower. I think it is an 8HP engine. May not be the original engine that came on the mower. It had a name plate on the end of the engine but the name plate has fallen completely apart.

If you cant find one, I would suggest that you use a digital camera and take pictures during the disassembly. Then when you put it back together, just look at your pictures. Good luck...Lee

SOURCE: The gas line/hose (not sure what to call it

Hi.

I not only have found your fuel line available online, I also found the clamps and filters for your mower as well.

Here is a link to an online suppl;y company that caaries all the parts, and they ship rather quickly as well.

http://www.partsbuggy.com/ope/Toro-mower-ope-fuel-parts.htm

You may decide to get other parts from there as well, as they carry all the parts and accessories for Toro brand mowers.

I hope this helps you out, and have a good day!

SOURCE: Tecumseh 4.5 hp engine won't start

First thing to check on a Tecumseh; pull the half inch bowl nut (main jet) out of the bottom of the carburetor. Give it a good cleaning with carb cleaner then pay special attention to the teeny tiny hole that is right at the very top of the threads. It's so small you can hardly see it and if it clogs, your mower won't start. Best of luck to you.

I have an old frame cannot identify serial or model C55829

Not usually possible to ID a bike by serial number alone. Only a few brands have serial number that are unique enough to tell what brand they are, and even if you know the brand the serial number will rarely tell you the model, only the year. If there's no head badge (name plate on front of frame) or model decal then it does not matter at all what brand it is. Value is minimal.

Tecumseh 195cc

Those are engine numbers not buggy numbers, use tape measure inside the pulleys to get approximate size then experiment with different sizes

I have a 10 hs tecumseh motor on a riding mower i need an explode view of carb and linkage when start-up engine it goes wide open

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. I understand you have a 10 HP Tecumseh engine. There are service manuals available on line for your engine but without your engine model number it is difficult to pass you the correct one: Here is the link for the service manuals:
http://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Tecumseh_Service_and_Repair_Manuals

Somewhere in the list is your manual.
This is my best guess without your engine model number:
http://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Tecumseh_Service_and_Repair_Manuals/TECUMSEH_SERVICE%20_REPAIR_MANUAL_OHH50-65_OHHSK50-130_OHV11-OHV17_OVM120_OVRM40-675_OVRM120_OVXLC120_OVXL120_OVXL125_695244A.pdf

^-Make sure you read about Adjustments in section 1 also.

Running wide open causes:
1. Broken throttle control plate spring
2. Governor spring problem
3. Internal Governor flyweight has departed the governor gear.
4. Throttle plate (butterfly) attached to the throttle shaft in the carb throat has come off the throttle shaft.
5. Broken / missing linkage
6. Someone loosened the governor shaft bolt at the base of the governor arm and allowed the governor to get out of adjstment.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

I have no manual

First you want to identify the make of the unit (like Hoover, Eurka, Advance, etc.) After that, you will want to get the Name Plate data. A name plate is simply the a metal stamped, or a Stick on label, with the technical information on the unit Such as Make, Model number, Serial number, Manufactor date, Etc. Name plates are usually very visible, they will be on the Base of the unit [the Canister, for Canister Vacuums, or the Debris collector (bag/bagless) section of the unit, or with some models, The Name Plate will be located on the brush housing,

Looking for a carburetor for a yard machines mtd

You may have better luck in identifying the engine type and manufacture (Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, etc) and get the number of the engine vs the machine itself, if possible. If you are able to do this, you can search ebay or the net for a wider range of possibilities for a purchase.
