You need to go in the menu and change the region code. yours is not set for amarican made dvd's

To change the Region code on your DVD player, open Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager, and click on DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on the DVD drive and click Properties then click on DVD Region.
You can enter a new region and it also shows you how many changes have been made.
NOTE you can make only 4 changes and the player will lock permanently on the 4th change.
If you want to play DVDs from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmware to make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrong firmware the player will be a piece of junk.
The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece of software (Passkey for DVD) that allows you to play DVDs from any region and Passkey for Blu-ray that allows you to play Blu-rays from any region. There are several available on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free From: -

Click Start/My Computer then Right Click on the DvD Drive and select Properties. Click the Hardware Tab and double Click the Dvd drive or highlight it and click Properties. Click the DvD Region Tab and go down towards the bottom to change it by putting in a New Region.

1. Install it and let the installation fail.

2. Go to RegEdit.

4. Highlight the key and click File -> Export and save the key in case you need to re-apply it.

5. Delete 'UpperFilters' and 'LowerFilters' within that location.

6. Exit RegEdit and restart your computer.

I didn't have an 'UpperFilters', so I just deleted my 'LowerFilters'. Restarted and magically, my DVDRAM drive was recognized and started working.

im not sure if you can detect a certain driver you might have to go through the process
control panel admistrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down network adapters +expand Ethernet driver right click update driver,disable,uninstall or select properties general you can trobleshoot or driver to update,rollback or uninstall

if your useing vista press the start button go into control panel select classic view ,then select device manager, find your dvd player click on it select dvd region pick the one you want but you can only change it a limited number of times

You could use a program meant to dupe, or change, your DVD-ROM's region code. These are independent, third-party programs so don't trust everything you see. Read reviews; a simple Google search can aid you with that. "Change DVD Region"

Alternatively, you could possibly change the DVD region of your drive from within Windows. If you opt to do this (if you can), the region will need to be changed back for viewing US DVDs.

These instructions are for XP. For Vista, it shouldn't be too different.
-Go into DEVICE MANAGER double-click on your DVD drive (likely "D:") under the DVD/CD DEVICES tree
-The third tab of the Properties window should be DVD REGION
-Voila!

-The HARDWARE tab has a link to the DEVICE MANAGER

have you right clicked on the drive and properties to see if any settings were changed

Well there is if you still remember the original REGION CODE of your DVD Rom. Simply got to My Computer > Right Click choose Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager > Click on the DVD/CD Rom Drives. This will now expand downwards you will see your DVD devices listed here. Right click on the DVD device and choose properties again. Then click on the DVD Region Tab, here you will see a list of countries every country has their own region code. Choose your original region code then click Apply and ok.
