Find out the laptop details and google the for the wireless network card firmware. Download from another internet source and use a pen drive to copy and install on the laptop.

Go to this website on a computer where you can download the drivers. http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WPC54G/download Copy the downloaded file onto a USB drive (thumb drive) and then install the driver from the USB drive onto your laptop before you insert the wireless adapter card into the laptop. After the driver installation is complete, then install the card into your laptop and it should be recognized and after a couple of minutes,should be ready to go.
You need to download the driver in order to get it to work. Suggestions are using the ethernet connection if possible, or by whatever other means you used to post this message and download the driver for the wireless network card.
