Go to your nearest gateway service and buy for dvdrom drive because your dvdrom drive is a disposable electronic device. In case there is no compatible dvdrom drive to your laptop buy a usb dvdrom drive external. Have a nice day.
There is nothing wrong if you want to replace it with generic or branded DVDrom drive. As long as compatible with your motherboard. If you are using IDE or UDMA cable you must buy IDE DVDrom drive but if it's SATA cable you have to buy SATA DVDrom drive.Good Luck
Can your DVDROM read the DVD when it is insert?
Open your Windows Explorer and see if the DVDROM can read the DVD data!
If you can't see the data on the DVD, probably your DVDROM or or DVD is the problem.
If you can see the data on the DVD, then you have not install the necessary "codec" to play the video from the DVD.

Well, you have one of two things going on. Either A.) your laser lens is dirty or B.) Your laser lens is out of alignment.
Using lens cleaner kits are useless for any cdrom or dvdrom if you're a smoker and smoke around your PS2. Reason I say this is nicotine and other resin forms cloud your lens over time and create a film on it.
By what it sounds like to me is since it's reading disks part of the time and kinda works, that your laser lens alignment might be ok. However, don't rule this out completely.
First, do a cleaning. Power on your PS2 and open dvdrom tray via the button on your console and power down the PS2 via the switch on the back. The point of this is to keep the dvdrom tray open as you take apart your PS2 so we can get at the lens. Take the PS2 apart (flip it upside down and remove the 8 screws from the bottom, 4 maybe covered up by rubber and plastic square plates so remove those to get at the screws) Next, take the top of the PS2 off and look at the DVD assembly, there should be four screws that keep the lid on the dvdrom. Remove these four screws and take the plastic plate off the top of the dvdrom. Watch this video and clean the following items:
Put your PS2 back together and test. If this doesn't work let me know and i'll go over instructions on how to align your laser lens. But i'm quite sure, by what you have told me, that this is your problem.
In order to remove the drive you will have to open up your xbox, remove the dvdrom drive connected to the xbox mainboard, and open up the dvdrom casing to free your disc. here is some instruction on how to do so.
Hi, it appears that CDW/DVDROM is only detected in BIOS but in normal windows. This is a known issue from Microsoft eventhough you are using Windows Xp or Vista the CDW/DVDROM is not detected and does not appear in My computer icon. This can be easily fixed by a registry tweaks.
Hi Donna, the tray is moved in and out by cogs on a track. Can you see a little pin hole in the front of the unit. open out a paper clip and push it in, You should feel some Resistance! push a little harder and the CD drawer should open out a bit, then carefully pull it out the whole way. use the eject button to close it and open it. if this doesn't work, bring it back to the shop
