To install MPEG-4 Encoding/Decoding, you can try the following steps:

1. Go to the Pinnacle Studio 12 installation folder on your computer.
2. Look for a folder named "Redist" or "Redistributables".
3. Inside the "Redist" folder, look for a file called "MPEG-4_Codec.exe" or similar.
4. Double-click on the "MPEG-4_Codec.exe" file to run the installation process.
5. Follow the instructions provided by the installer to complete the installation.

If you cannot find the "MPEG-4_Codec.exe" file in the Pinnacle Studio 12 installation folder, you may need to download it from the internet. You can search for "MPEG-4 Codec download" in your preferred search engine and look for a trusted website to download it from. Once downloaded, double-click on the file to run the installation process, and follow the instructions provided by the installer to complete the installation.
Once the MPEG-4 Codec is installed, you should be able to add movies to Pinnacle Studio 12 without any issues.

Use an optical cable.

Be aware though. Your TV has a DVB-T tuner. It picks up the Freeview standard definition (SD) channels, but not the Freeview HD ones. Dolby Digital sound only comes from the Freeview HD channels.

Your TV will pass Dolby Digital from any source connected to a HDMI port to the Optical Out. It will also pass DTS. But the internal Freeview DVB-T tuner doesn't generate Dolby Digital, just stereo and stereo with Dolby Surround encoding where you use ProLogic II for decoding.

There are so many audo formats like Dolby Digital Decoding, Dolby Digital EX Decoding, Dolby Pro Logic Decoding, Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Pro Logic IIX Decoding, dts 96/24 Decoding, dts Decoding, dts NEO:6 Decoding and dts ES Decoding Stereo etc. What ever the AVR get a digital input It will decode the format and convert the same While it in the Auto format mode. If auto format is not selected it will convert the same in to stereo.

u shoul use dvd+r on pinnacle it works the best, un install the program, run a registry repair program to remove any old pinnacle stuff still installed then reinstall, make sure you have all the newest drivers for you hardware, and windows updates, dont install any codecs until you tried the program, exp, dont instal dvix or any other program that u use to whatch pirate movies with, it should work

it means that you ask it to do a job ...I mean a task ...and it needs this codec to read files or save files in the format you desire...so ...if its an automatic download-install you may proceed ...but be careful if it ask for fees and you dont really need this feature...just cancel and abord...and use it for what you already done ...

Your probably doing nothing wrong, I use different programs to encode DVD's and have noticed that some take longer than others to complete, but what i did notice was the encoding that took longer ended up being the best quality.
