Van will not start when its cold. it cranks and cranks. once you do get it started it restarts fine. have checked spark and fuel all is good. changed air filter also. no lights come on

Has 170,000. no other mechanical issues. been having problem for months and its getting worse. if you turn key for just a second and wait for pump to stop and try again it usually starts after few cranks. you have to do short cranks tho. if you just hold key and let it crank if will never start. bought it used about 10,000 miles ago.

I saw something similar to this on a 1991 dodge van a few days ago.. turns out it was the battery. It was odd, because it cranked over fine and had spark and fuel, but would not start. If your battery is good, then confirm that your fuel pressure is ok

thats what i keep saying because when it gets so low i have to jump it after trying to start it it starts right up. mechanic and hubby disagree. its at dealer right now getting diagnosed. hate paying the money but what do you do. will keep you posted.

Cars with computers need good batteries... that seems to be more true with later model cars. Let me know what the dealer finds!

Click on the link, the diagram is for starter motor. Will the starter motor crank the engine? If it cranks good but won't start, make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. Have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the plugs. Spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Check fuel injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes. Those are the basic checks, in my opinion.

Crank the starter intermittently so it doesn't overheat. You need spark--fuel--compression, proper amounts at proper time, where applicable, or it won't start.

Try changing the fuel filter and checking the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. The readings should be 60 to 65psi with the fuel line pressurized with the engine not running, once the engine is running. It should drop by 5psi. Start with the simple things first. Keep me posted, be glad to help.
