The scroll pad on the touch pad needs a particular driver Synaptics Pointing Device Driver. This will actually run at the startup after installed which will activate the functionality of scroll on the touch pad. You can also actually turn this function on and off so this is a friendly user. If you do not have that driver that comes with your laptop you can go here: http://www.compaq.com/cpq-country/cpq_support.html or here http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers
Hi, The files in temp folder can be safely deleted and have nothing to do with touch pad atleast. Something else might have gone wrong. Just check from the Device Manager or Control Pannel that the drivers for touch pad are installed. If so, check for the scroll option (synaptics touch pad utility) and set it accordingly. If it doesn't work, you may download and reinstall the touch pad drivers again from the manufacturers support site.
Try going to Control Panel - Hardware and sound - mouse. Once you have the menu for the mouse open, go to device settings. Click settings, and all of the advanced controls for the functions of your mouse pad can be found there.
you will need to install your Synaptics driver. Use the Driver disc that came with your DELL or you may download the driver at www.support.dell.com. Here is the direct link to download : http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&catid=17&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400%2FE1505&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False
If you have the drivers for the touchpad installed then you should be able to run your finger up or down the right hand side of the touch pad and have it scroll the page you are one.
If it doesn't work then you may need to either reinstall the drivers or find the program that handles the touch pad settings (usually found in program files) and turn the scrolling feature back on.
