Please indicate what computer you are using.

Also indicate if the DVD is a movie or what the label says (e.g. DVD+R or DVD-RW, etc...)

    Best regards

DVDs don't always run automatically, you may need to turn on autoinsert notice on the DVD's hardware properties.
Also, it depends on what software you have running to view DVDs.

I want to run a Dban disk, but nothing I select from the BIOS menu actually boots the computer from the DVD drive containing the disk. I have an ancient Gateway 838GM with Windows xp

Make sure the first option in BIOS boot options is the CD\DVD drive. If it is not you need to move it to the top of the list (usually the +- keys).

If it is already at the top of the list then the problem is that the disk inserted is not formatted correctly to be booted from. If no CD\DVD drive shows up in the BIOS then the drive is not able to be booted from period

Cd drive door won't stay shut

This is an indication that the CD-drive is detecting that the inserted disk is not FULLY inserted.
If it is fully inserted, and it is mis-reporting the condition, then spend $35 to purchase a replacement CD/DVD reader/writer.

I have a dell inspiron 530s desktop and my cr-rom dvd player does not work. It does not recognize any disc inserted!

HI,
If the drive was working fine earlier , and has suddenly quit working , Remove all media from the drive. Download and run the following patch from micorsoft . If it doesnot fix the issue the dirve would have to replaced.

Microsoft Fixit

Once you are on the above link. click on the green button that says run now.

Thanks for using fixya

Dvd-rw does not work when inserted in D drive the message returns "please insert DVD into drive"

Hi! You may have a problem with the optical drive/CD rom drive. The lens may be dirty so i suggest you run a cd lens cleaner. If it still doesnt help, I believe you need to buy a CD rom replacement. Hope this helps.

Cd rom and cd/dvd drive won't work. I inserted MS Flight Sim x and nothing happens. I have also tried to run the d: drive, but nothing happens.

Check the the connection cables to the CD/DVD drive inside the computer (make sure they are seated). Enter the BIOS using the DEL or F1 key at startup and make sure the CD/DVD drive is detected. If not, try replacing ribbon or sata cable going to drive.

Can't read dvd inserted..it says a blank dvd

have you tried reinstalling the dvd drivers?
I would try that and see if it works.
also make sure you set to the proper region for your dvd's
you can only change the region a couple times so go easy.

My DVD R-WR is not reading the DVDs inserted in it.

First check the device manager to see if the drive is listed or has a yellow !. See if any error code is listed, ie. error code 39. If it does then it is a driver problem. Try reinstalling the driver/software package that came with your dvd drive. If none of these are present then try using a good quality dvd cleaner in the drive. After cleaning use a known good dvd to see if the drive is working. If all these fail then try uninstalling the drive using the remove hardware function from the control panel. After it is uninstalled reboot the computer & see if the drive automatically reinstalls. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

The setup wizard on the CD will not automatically run when inserted in the CD-ROM drive, what do i do?

  1. click on start
  2. My computer
  3. right click on CD/DVD Drive
  4. Left click auto run

selecting My Computer, right-clicking the drive that contained the CD-ROM, and selecting Properties. click the AutoPlay tab and select the Select an action to perform option, then double-click the program to use to run the CD-ROM. This action launched the program on the CD-ROM. Note that simply highlighting the program you want to use and clicking OK or Apply doesn't work; you must double-click the program and force it to launch on the CD-ROM or DVD in the drive. The CD-ROM then ran automatically, using the program associated with it on the AutoPlay tab.
