DVDs don't always run automatically, you may need to turn on autoinsert notice on the DVD's hardware properties.
Also, it depends on what software you have running to view DVDs.

Hi There and Welcome to FixYa!

It seems like you're having some serious optical drive issues there. Based on how you described the problem, I would think at the onset that there is somewhat of a 'conflict' in your OS' registry (if you're using Windows, that is). I recommend that you go and visit the site below from Microsoft :

MS Drive Issues

Clicking "Run Now" will download the executable file. After completing the download, go ahead and run the application (making sure that all other applications are closed). What it does is it will clear any conflicts from the OS registry. After the procedure, restart your computer.

If this does not resolve this problem, then I would strongly suggest that you replace the optical drive in order to completely fix this issue.

I hope this helps, and Thank you for using FixYa.

Dvd-rw does not work when inserted in D drive the message returns "please insert DVD into drive"

Hi! You may have a problem with the optical drive/CD rom drive. The lens may be dirty so i suggest you run a cd lens cleaner. If it still doesnt help, I believe you need to buy a CD rom replacement. Hope this helps.

Cd rom and cd/dvd drive won't work. I inserted MS Flight Sim x and nothing happens. I have also tried to run the d: drive, but nothing happens.

Check the the connection cables to the CD/DVD drive inside the computer (make sure they are seated). Enter the BIOS using the DEL or F1 key at startup and make sure the CD/DVD drive is detected. If not, try replacing ribbon or sata cable going to drive.

Cant play movies from my toshibia laptop

Hi:
There are several reasons why a movie won't play, so I will run a few suggestions by you:

Hopefully ;you have a DVD drive or a DVD RW drive ?

If you insert a DVD or CD into the drive, your computer should recognize that a disk is inserted. If not the drive might be bad

You must have some sort of Software installed to make movies play, such as WinDVD, or PowerDVD

My cd drive doesn't recognise the disk inserted

Can you see the information on the CD/DVD from Windows Explorer? (NOT Internet Explorer). Some CD's/DVD's just won't recognize correctly from Auto Play. If you can see what's on the disk (in Windows Explorer) try double clicking the Setup.exe or Run.exe from there and see if it loads. I have the same problem on some of mine.

NEC DVD-RW 16x DL

If you switched to a different brand of DVD's try using the brand you used before. DVD burners are tested with certain brands of DVD's and sometimes the brands that aren't on that list don't work.
