Any device that actually makes steam should use distilled water. You are boiling away the water to make steam. Everything in the water that is not water will remain in your 'boiler'. So, what to do now ... treat it with vinegar. Vinegar should disolve the minerals left in your boiler.

My handheld Haan steamer steams out the top where you put the water but it will not come out the area where you put attachments. I've soaked it in white vinegar overnight but still no steam to clean!

Descaling a steamer, or anything else, in a hard water area must be done at regular intervals as mostly if it is left until it is needed it is too late for descaler and will either need to be dismantled and cleaned manually or thrown out.

In a hard water area it is preferable to use distilled water in steamers though deionized or boiled water would help slow the rate of scaling. Clean rainwater can be used and if you have an old-fashioned fridge/freezer you could use the meltwater from the deicing process.
As you know, water boils at 212 degrees F. Scale forms at 140 degrees and upwards and in hard water areas scale can form at a surprising rate...

I bought a Shark 2-in-1 Steam pocket MOP at Target 5 months ago,I used it 3 times and now the steaming isn't working. My Shark is S2902 what can I do with it? Could youhelp me with it, please?

It seems strange that it failed so quickly. Don't use tap water, it will wreck the element and potentially block up the galleries. I have a budget tip you can try. Mix up a solution of citric acid powder (safe to use - it's a baking ingredient) in DISTILLED WATER. A tablespoon per 2 cups should be strong enough. Make sure the powder is sufficiently dissolved and add it to the steamer tank. Turn it on and wait for a while (maybe 10 - 15 mins?) and pump the mop on the floor - with a bit of luck, it will purge out the steamer and start working. Drain it out and thoroughly rinse the tank. Refill with distilled water and use it until the lines and galleries are free of the powdered acid solution. Store the steamer EMPTY of all water and in future only use distilled water (citric acid powder does an amazing job of cleaning electric kettles too)

Low power from steam mop

Try to be a little more vague! Model? Age of steamer? Rate of use?...Try a couple of drops of vinegar in with the water you use to fill your steam mop. The heating element that heats the water is probably oxidized, especially if you use tap water to fill it. You should only use distilled water in these mops. Some lower end steam mops have a handle that compresses, as you push the mop forward, which essentially makes the mop steam more, the more you "pump" the handle. Hope this helps!

Forgot what kind of water to use - distilled or other wise can not find manual, can I get one - Model GS7RW Thanks, Susan

hi.

i am assuming it is the GS7RW garment steamer and not actually a vacuum cleaner.

any electrical item with a heating element should be used with distilled or de-ionised water.
if you live in a "hard water" area where the water contains dissolved calcuim salts, these will cause scaling and furring up of the heater element. easiest way to tell is to look inside your kettle. if there are white deposits on the base or heating element, your steamer will get the same deposits and work less effectively.

another option is to use the scented ironing waters available from many supermarkets for use in steam irons. these will not harm your steamer, and will also make your clothes smell nice as they come in a range of scents.

this link does have some instructions that may help.

Scuncii Steamer

It is probably clogged with rust or limescale - can happen with steam cleaners. Sadly there's no way around this but to try a limescale remover in distilled water such as Calgon limescale remover. Fill the kettle as normal and give it time to boil up. Then release the steam as you would normally. You may find that the kettle will spurt out deposits of gunk. Sounds like its definately clogged though.
