Check that the aerial (pole) is up all the way, also tension setting on the thread. I would expect the needle tension to be 5. now review yr threading , check this thread from cone to needle and see if the thread is wrapped twice around a loop or catching on another guide or just missing a guide. sometimes if you put pole down to cover machine at night, then come back and pull up the pole for next use, the thread may catch on back thread support, around the cone or foam under cones. its usually something simple. also chech the take up lever, is the thread passing under this?? if not that would cause breakage just as it does with regular sewing machine. the take up lever draws thread down when needles raise to keep thread feeding to needles - maybe this isnt happening? if its definitely threaded correctly try stitching very slowly and see if take up is moving??? lastly is the thread old brittle and dry?? although most locker cones are poly thread they can get brittle if very old. good idea to store the spares in a drawer long term out if daylight if you can. and cover machine up when not in use, plastic panels are adverse to sunlight and ditto for the thread. hope some of the above solves yr problem. but if you cant resolve it then take for a service, should have one every two years to clean lube and reset looper timings to get best from the machine.

Right needle keeps unthreading when sewing. Have checked tension, threading and changed needles. Still doing it.

Unable to discern whether this is a sewing machine or serger. Whatever it is, be sure to pull at least 6 inches of thread beyond the needle's eye before taking the first stitch. You can also try gently holding the thread tails while you take the first few stitches.

I just got a new Janome 8002d serger. Why does it make a clicking noise when I begin to serge and then it goes to straight stitching that comes unsewn.

I don't have a Janome, but you might check your threading to see if it's correct, lucky you to get a new one!!!

Thread breaking at loupers on overlock machine singer

If it's the lower looper thread breaking, the cure is to unthread the eye of the needle(s), rethread the lower looper, then rethread the needles. Sergers have very specific internal crossings that are easiest to do if the various parts are threaded in a particular order. Typically, you thread the upper looper, then lower looper, then the needles. If you try to deviate from that without knowing exactly what you're doing, it tends not to work well.

In general, most serger troubles, especially for beginners, trace to minor misthreadings. It's easier, in my opinion, to rethread the entire machine from scratch than look for the minor error that's catching you up. And you learn the threading pattern well as a special bonus. <g>
If it's not cureable by rethreading a couple of times from scratch, the next thing to do is put in new needles, right way around, and rethread again.

SERGER HAS BEEN RETHREADED AND HAS A NEW NEEDLE BUT WILL ONLY SERGE FOR ABOUT 1.5 " and THE THREAD BREAKS AND LOWER LOOPER COMES UNTHREADED.

Serger thread breaks

1. Is the serger threaded correctly?

2. Is the needles inserted correctly?

3. Is one of the needles bent or damaged?

4. Is the tension adjusted too tightly?

5. Is the tension adjusted to accommodate thickness of thread being used?

6. Are you using inferior quality thread?

7. Is the thread feeding off the cone/spool freely?

8. Is the needle size correct for the type of fabric being used?

9. Are the needles being used the correct one for the serger?

10. If all of the above suggestions don't help then the serger needs to be checked for a timing problem at a sewing machine repair shop.

Serger problems

I love/hate my serger! Is thread stuck anywhere below? Bent needles? Are the needles in correctly and tightly? Is the machine greased? Unthread it, rethread. After all of this, it should work. Good luck. My simple old singer didn't do this but it wore out and the Viking is temperamental!

I have kenmore serger and i cant get it to do a stich, i am pretty sure it is thread right its the first one you thead that keeps coming unthreaded

try checking the tension dial and loosen it just alittle
check your manual for directions on tension
make sure the thread pulls smoothly from the needle
also make sure the thread tails are long enough to be pulled
behind the needle before serging.

After automatic thread cut the needle comes unthreaded

you need long thread tails, of 3 to 6 inches for the top & bobbin thread so the needle doesn't come unthreaded,
also pull the thread behind the needle before you start to sew

Why does the 4th thread keeps breaking on my serger? I've re-threadedi it a dozen times carefully following the diagram. What am I doing wrong?

Most likely it is either your tension on thay thread being too high, or the needle is too big for the project you are working. Lower that tension, use the next size up needle, and thay should fix it. Also, I STRONGLY suggest only using maxi-locks thread. They are more expensive than other serger threads, but they are always half-price at hancock... Any other thread I have tried using causes breakage, especially on the the lower looper (the 4th thread). Although, of you keep the tension low-below 3 or so, you should be ok. If these tips don't help, I would also check your cutting width, if your machine has an adjustable one. If it is leaving too much gabric to the right of the needles, out is conceivable that this is putting too much pressure on the threads. Let me know if this helps!
