Usually means a needle, knife or looper is bent and everything is out of alignment. Try all new needles and replace knife, then carefully hand-rotate your wheel and watch the alignment as everything stitches in super-slow motion. If you can see the bent part, you MAY be able to gently bend it back in alignment, but because these are such precision machines. it will probably need a service, which is good anyway because the technician can clean and oil the machine very well. It's worth it to have it serviced. Remember when you hear a knocking next time, to stop immediately and investigate.

Just guessing the machine may need cleaning and oiling. Consult the owner's manual. Sergers usually require frequent oiling (more than sewing machines) because of the speed and complexity of moving parts in a serger. Apply 1-2 drops of fresh, good quality oil for your machine--some brands use a specific weight oil.

If in doubt, take it for service. It could probably use a very good check-up by a professional anyway. At least then you will be starting out with a tuned up, working machine.

cleaning your serger (avoid using compressed air as sometimes it will force lint and debris farther into the machine!)

Since your issue is with the stitch width function, you may want to focus more on that mechanism and work at getting it released. Sometimes applying heated air from a handheld hairdryer will loosen stuck mechanisms.

Go on the Babylock web site, they have good explanations of all serger types and the differences.

Your serger should be color coded for threading. Just do one at a time either left to right or right to left with the cones. And you should be all set.

in response to all serger, no, after my babylock serger is cleaned and serviced it runs quietly.
as for the brother, it's possible thats normal, try contacting a repair shop in your area and tell them about the serger and see what they say.
it's possible that the serger may need some type of adjustment
or a part may have broken .
