Disconnect the power supply for few minutes, say 15 minutes and then then turn it ON.If the problem persists, this would confirm an internal failure and needs repair. If you have an experience repairing electronics and would be able to keep precautions, i would be able to be able to guide you. You need to have schematics that could be easily available from the service manual.
If you do not have any repair experience,it could be an issue with caps on power supply board or an issue with an internal component that needs repair. In both the cases, i assume that repair would be a worth. There is no need to spending money on a new set when this set could be repaired. The average life of this set is around 8 - 10 years. So, as it is only 6 years old, spending $200 - $300 would assure you that the set would work for the next 4 years which is not at all bad.

Remove the cover on the back of the tv. Look for swollen or leaking capacitors. They kinda look like batteries. If they are bulging or leaking then that is your problem. You will have to de-solder the old ones off. Then solder the new capacitors onto the circuit board. Capacitors will cost about 20 dollars and installing them isn't that hard to do. It will fix your tv 99% of the time. So it is worth a try!
