I have replaced plugs ,wires,desribater cap, rotor button,fuel pump, water pump,fuel filter, and put a new carborater on my 1988 mightmax,and what it is doing is when i get up to about 45 to 55 miles per hour the engine trys to die then it come back on and it does this over and over about 5 or 6 times then it will just die and i have to pull over and turn the key and it will fire right up, it does not backfire when it is doing this, it sits idols just fine, i am very puzzled, please help.

A backfire is caused when your intake valve/s aren't closing completely before ignition in the cylinder. This ignites any fuel/air mixture left in the intake manifold. Fine tune your timing.
You put something back the wrong way.....any amount of water in the tank, carb or whatever WILL NOT cause the engine not to fire.....check any wiring/rewiring you did for accuracy
1/ Have you fitted the spark plug leads in the proper firing order.
2/ Look inside the top of distributor Top (this is not the first time a new distributer cap has very small crack) or the rotor arm is fitting the cap properly. Hope this helps Best Wishes, Malcolm Campbell.
