Would a 1985 bmw r 45 have electronic ignition or points

the fuel pump and timing belt are not components for spark did you check distributor- points -coil -plugs-wires ignition switch -fuses and relays ----didnt specify engine if diesel need to check glow plugs

Sears product, kohler engine, It depends on the type of ignition. probably .32-.35 for points type and .45-.60 for electronic ignitions.

Does it have points now?

What ignition system are you using. Is it points or electronic? Has it been modified? If electronic then cam sensor may be gone. If points then all it can be is wiring assuming points/condensor has been changed or checked. All else then ignition module has failed.

TS350's got electronic ignition after serial number 13927613 early 1985 - yours must be earlier than this, possibly European specification. Before messing with the point gap, try cleaning the contacts with 'wet and dry' type abrasive paper....tear off a strip and fold double along long edge so that abrasive is on both sides (you could use a fine nail file/board) and pull through closed points so that it cleans up the oxide coating that builds up through non use. Finish off with a dab of electrical cleaner or similar 'safe' solvent (brake and clutch cleaner) and maybe a shot of air.

Try a Dyna ignition out of the States. Well made, reliable, easy to fit and should be supported should any problems arise (unlikely). A good habit is to keep a set of points ,set up on the backing plate, under the seat of any Moto Guzzi.

e-bay "there be coils there!" for the bidding its well worth a look if you need parts.. just type in bmw r 80 parts,,,then let loos your wallet!!!

Hey Drew..my name is Keith....and it could be any number of things when it comes to the electronics..but there is one item that controls all the power to everything..and thats the ignition switch..and it sounds like you might have a bad contact(s) in the ignition switch...but i would do some troubleshooting..it could a corroded connector somewhere or a faulty ground wire somewhere..so..i hope this has helped and i wish i could pin point your problem..but if you need further assistance..write me back
