My 1986 yamaha xz 400 will not start lights on dash go etc but when i tu rn key it just clicks has always started first go up to now have checked battery fuses

Starter solenoid.take battery an battery box out.solenoid is an inch round diameterand bout 3inches long with positive lead to battery and to the starter. if you want u can jump staft from tbe battery to th ztarter on the bottom front of the motor.you need to check your regulator rectifier bolted to the back of the battery box.withe fins on it about 4inches square . lots of wires go to it.these become faulty and cook your battery and starter solenoid.hope this helps.you can push start it [email protected]

Sounds like not enough connection /ground if the headlight is strong but just clicks
