Check fuses first, then I would check the wiring harness for any issues.I would say fuel issue definitely. Sometimes the pump and gauge are one unit, sometimes separate, but they share the same wiring harness.
You need to test the gauge and the sending unit in the gas tank itself. In most cases I find this is the sending unit in the tank. Unfortunately, that is usually combined with the fuel pump in 1995 and newer vehicles which means you have to replace the whole unit. If you have 2 opening to your tank with wires coming from both you have a separate level sending unit from the fuel pump. If there is only one they are combined. Check for shorts on those wires.
had the same problem on my 2000 s-10 ,turned out the wire from sending unit had worked loose(bad crimp). The fuel pump had recently been replaced. the connector to the sending unit was different from original . the new pump included the different connector ,but it had to be spliced in .Check connections at tank/fuel pump. Also there were 3 ground connections 1 tank to frame 2 bed to frame on my s-10 hope this helps
You have a bad fuel level sensor. The fuel tank needs to come out and the sensor replaced. You don`t have to replace the pump assembly. You can get the level sensor separate.I`m not sure if the parts stores have it but I know the dealerships do.Hope this helps.Good luck.
