My Volvo 850 has had a rather slow starter motor since I've owned it. But now it is getting really slow. The battery is relatively new. Time for a new/rebuilt starter motor?

The armature in your starter motor spins inside of two phosphur bronze bushes which have been impregnated with oil when they were fitted. That oil dries out and the bushes wear out. This means that the armature can spin off centre and strike the internal poles and pole shoes. This is called poling and WILL cause serious or irreparable damage to the starter motor. Yes, it's time to have the starter motor removed and overhauled or replaced. Also, have a look at the two main battery cables and have them replaced with double zero B & S cable as some Volvo's were fitted with small diameter cables which give troubles after a few years.

Check cables first. Take starter in and have it bench tested at large chain store (free).

You have to go to the dealer or call them. You have to show them your id and registration. To show the car is yours. They will then give you the code. Do not let them charge you this is for free.

Abs dash light on Volvo 850 is on, whats wrong ?

Volvo has had a lot of trouble with ABS control units. Yours will most likely need to be replaced. You can either replace it with an exchange unit from a Volvo parts supplier or send yours to BBA reman. in MA for repair.

I have a 1994 850 volvo that wont start. I drove it for a short time went home turned it off to grab my cup of coffee came out ten min later only a click of the ignition. The fuel pump works, starter is...

check your battery terminal connections for corrosion and good contact your lights can still work but the starter draws alot of amps so a good connection is critical, also see if your lights dim out while trying to start it might just be the battery is not strong enough to work the starter but strong enough to work the lights

Volvo 850 oil pressure sending unit

It's on the engine, right next to the starter, it has one wire going to it. You don't need to drain the oil. If the light is coming on, you may have bad seals in the oil pan, a fairly common problem, but replacing the switch is a good fisrt step.

Volvo 850 is dead after wrong polarity at charging

It is possible that you have melted a fuseable link. These are heavy guaged wires coming off the positive battery cable. Their purpose is to protect the electric system in the event of such a case.
