Question about 1996 Volvo 850

Volvo 850 heater blower

After squealing like a pig for a few days, the heater blower quit. The fuses are OK so I presume the motor needs replacing. How do I get at it to repair or replace it?

Could also be the heater resistor. Both the fan motor and resistor are located in the same place behind the glovebox. Have to take off the glove box drawer and a couple other things in there to get at it. It's all in the Haynes Repair Manual. I just experienced the same problem and have to replace one or the other (or both) today...

    Resistor - 99.95 from Volvo
Fan Motor - 234.95 from Volvo

I did not replace the resistor, or the motor - just oiled it, and it all works fine so far. It would appear that the Electronic Climate Control senses that the motor is seized, blinks the recirc light when you first call for air, and shuts off power to the motor. Anyone know if that is the case? If the resistor didn't blow, why replace it?

My heater motor just stopped working after a hard cold start this morning. Its newer, I know that, all the fuses are good. The "rec" and "ac" lights blink when I start it. The motor or something else. Thanks in advance!

As you can read in the first response that is most likely the long as you're gonna be doing all the labor, if you can afford it replace both the resistor and motor at he same time if you plan on keeping the car.

What will keep heater fan from working( both fuses check good)?

The speeds are controlled by a resistor pack. Changing the resistor pack may restore full functionality. Volvo heater fans are notorious for squealing. Usually they are run at a speed that doesn't squeal. If it squeals at one speed, sometimes a different speed won't squeal. The resistors seem to eventually fail. They are fairly cheap to replace.

Where is the heater fan relay on a Volvo 1994 850?

The blower motor relay is behind the glove box. If your blower only runs on high it's the resistor and it's behind the glove box too.

1993 volvo 850 heater blower works sometime tell me why?

These models had problems with the blower motor power stage, which is what controls the fan speed, and the blower motors wear out. There a good chance it needs both!

Heater problem blower not blowing ?

Hi Steve, you're so close to the answer already.
The feed wire is broken and sometimes it touches and sometimes not. It might just be the fitting on the end if you're lucky.
I'd replace the whole wire just to be sure ;)
