Coolant leak - seems only to leak when motor is cooling down

Coolant leak - seems only to leak when motor is cooling down -- Doesnt leak a lot - Leak seems to be coming from the front of the engine . Checked the heads - nothing visible.
I get a few spots on the floor -- Once the engine is cool -- it no longer leaks. Seems to be from the front rhs of the lower portion of the engine -- I cant quite pinpoint the source ??. 2001 Royal star tour Deluxe

Regarding the coolant leak in my 2001 Royal Star -- I did a little more looking and finally pin pointed the source of the leak.. Here goes.. I removed the cooling fins from the cylinders -- there is a rubber plug with a threaded metal center located near the bottom bolt hole . There is a small leak from this plug during the motor cooling phase . Hot or cold the motor doesn't leak -- just in the transition period while cooling down . just wondering if it is much of a job to change this plug out - or can it be tightened somehow??

Whenever I have a water leak problem I fix it the way anold mechanic taught me. I go to the drug store and get a bottle of sodium silocate. I drain out my coolant and save that. Then poor in the whole bottle of SS and top it off with distilled water. Then I run the engine until it's up to max temp. Shut it off and let it cool over night. I drain it and replace the coolant. Problem solved. SS will seal all leaks and hold up to high temps. I have fixed broken headgaskets many times and even a cracked block once. So there you have it, a true old school fix. Works for me. Hopefully it will for you.

If you top up the water before each ride, this may be it.The water expands when it's getting warm/hot.Once you pull up,the motor gets a lot hotter. No air across the motor/radiator.This causes a bit more to expand past the radiator pressure release. The radiator cap.Its normal.Beside the rad. cap is a thin hose. That is probably the source of the waterHope this is your problem and hope it helps

My 2004 3.4 6cyl base impalas "hot coolant temp" light came on and the reservoir tank is half way full now when cool. It wasn't a week ago, I haven't added any fluids, what could be the problem?

seems that you have a coolant leak somewhere and when cooling down the leak is sealing and drawing back reservoir water
could simply be a radiator cap problem
have a coolant pressure test done
check under the water pump body for a leak under running and pressure

I have a 04 lincoln ls 3.0. when driving i dont seem to lose coolant but as soon as i turn the car off i here the system bubbling then all the coolant comes out from underneath on the driver side. wha

You have a leak! Take to a garage where they can pressure test the cooling system and find the leak! After running the pressure builds up so when you turn the engine off it expels the coolant through the leak but while running it flows past the leak!

2006 impala losing a lot of coolant

As Steve, (the answer above), said, water pump or hoses. Check each hose one at a time. If the engine is still hot wipe each hose until dry then leave things to cool down. When cold, Re-check each hose carefully. Look for a hose that has become wet again. Check the ends where the clamps are fitted as well. One could be loose.
One final test is fill the coolant reservoir, leave the hood open and start the engine. Let the engine get up to working temperature so the thermostat opens. CAREFULLY look at the hoses and connectors to see if the leak is visible when the system is pressurised. This should also give you a clue as to whether it is the water pump. The pump leak will be on the engine and not from a hose.

It keeps overheating and the coolant is full

Sounds like the radiator is clogged. Take it to radiator shop and have it flushed

I have a 2000 alero v6 thats losing coolant but cant seem to see anywhere and no smoke comes out of the tail pipe and the oil level doesnt go up. so not sure where else the coolant is going. as well as...

I had the same problem on a 2002 Alero V6. I found the coolant was leaking at the intake manifold on the left front of the engine. I tightened the intake bolts (which were very loose) and solved my coolant leak problem.

Gets hot then cools down

it sounds like the cooling system is low on coolant or you may have a bad thermostat.another problem you could have is the head gaskets have a leak and it heats up then when the gasket starts to leak the cooling system pressure pushes the coolant out of the motor showing as a coolant leak or it is being drawn into the cylinder and burnt causing the heat to go away and blow cold.

1999 windstart upper intake gasket problems maybe?

sounds like an intake leak or a vacuum leak , would start it and spray like carb cleaner or starting fluid on the top of the motor while it is cool not hot and see if you get a rise or fall in rpm,s if it does get a response chase down the vacuum leak, if not it is probally the intake gasket
