It would be cam bearings not main bearings, check with a manual guage first, if you had no oil pressure your enging would be making metal to metal knocking noises and then seize up... Suggestion at the time you remove a oil galley plug with engine off, then disconnect coil wire from ign so engine will not start then have someone help bump the starter and crank engine over while you watch for oil flow from engine block... Check flow then insert manual oil pressure guage...
Well most idiot light type oil pressure warning lights do not light up until oil pressure is below 5 psi , which most engine will run fine at 5 psi at idle or even low rpm but will starve for oil at higher rpms...
If you engine is old enough and tired enough to have issues with the oil pump out put chances are the rest of the engine is do for overhaul also. Just a suggestion rather than throwing new parts a little at a time why not do a thorough rebuild job with the motor completely out, you will find it will give you more confidence in the vehicle especially on long drives, in the long run you could actaully save money and disappointments... JMO...
What is your oil pressure at 2000 rpms? And you never said what the pressure was after you re-checked it with a manual gage...
And also is there any knocking noise or any noises at all emitting from the oil pan area or mid motor area?

i do get pressure when i idle up some.
I agree but i was told the engine had been overhauled recently . But their idea of recently and overhaul might be consideralbly different from my mine or yours just trying to get some facts and test done to make an informed decicion of which way to go
mine is the gauge type if it matters
