RUNNING PROBLEM, ZZR600

PLEASE HELP! MY 1994 ZZR600 E1 SEEMS TO IDLE OK BUT A LITTLE ERATIC. HOWEVER, THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT I CANNOT GET THE BIKE TO GO MORE THAN ABOUT 35MPH. IT PULL SATISFACTORILY IN FIRST AND SECOND GEAR AND THEN AS YOU APROACH 30 ISH IS STARTS KANGAROOING, LOOSES POWER AND EVEN CUTS OUT ALTOGETHER IF YOU GIVE IT MORE THAN VERY LIGHT THROTTLE. I AM FULL TIME BIKER AND DON'T HAVE BACK UP TRANSPORT SO ANY THEORIES WOULD BE GRATELY APPRECIATED.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, remove the sparkplugs, note and postback the colors of the tip.

Almost always, idling problem is a carb issue (air/fuel mix & amount), On the otherhand, refusing to accelerate past a certain speed (or more particularly, a certain RPM while under load) indicates an air leak. Test drive the bike again and note where it starts to fail to accelerate, consistently on 35MPH or a particular RPM.

Please postback results of above checks.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

I have a 1996 ZZr600. It tends to stall when idiling, however, more so when the lights are on. The bike seems to accelerate well enough and does not lack in power. I am lost as to what could be causing...

It would seem as if you have the idle set too low. When the lights are on it is putting more strain on the engine, so when it is idling it causes the engine speed to fall too low.

Did you clean out your idle and main jets? If you did already you might have a intake air leak..

Bought 99 zzr600 with restrictor

for most bikes, you need to buy an aftermarket ignition module/computer module, as the factory one is set to meet emmision controls, and engine protection. the cost varries from bike to bike , but its always worth it if you want to use the full potential of the bike

88 toyota has little power when gas is pressed

your engine seems to be running rich. that may be do to a bad spark plug, spark plug wire, bad distributor cap. If you have a 22re you should check for trouble codes by jumping TE1 and E1.

You should also check your engine timing. With a timing light. The timing marks are located on or above the oil pump. keep in mind in order to get timing right you must have TE1 and E1 jumped. Set to 5 degrees advanced. If your engine is improperly timed it will accelerate slowly, and get worse mileage.

Also adjust/Check engine valves appropriately. they will cause low power.

Also does it misfire at idle?
