Bike will not idle without the choke ingaged?

The idle adjustment is on a small knob under the left side of the fuel tank. Start the bike as you would normally, then turn the knob until the idle speed picks up and slowly work the choke in. Continue making these small adjustments until the choke is all the way in and the bike is idling at a speed that is to your satisfaction. Barring any mechanical problem, this should do the trick.

God bless and good luck.

I have a 2003 Suzuki drz 125. and when i got it it would rev really high cold or hot.''not weather" and so i bought a new carburetor and it ran fine for a while. then after i left it alone for a while...

You stated that you "left it alone for a while"....if that is longer than a year, theres a few things that can happen here. Sounds like your pilot jets (idle jets) are plugged up and your float is sticking open. You should probably clean the carbs quick and see if that helps.

Otherwise another problem could just be that your Idle adjustment is set wrong. There should be a knob off to one side of the carb towards the bottom, usually has a black plastic or white plastic knob thing molded to it so you can change the idle by hand. But again, I'm pretty sure its your pilot jets plugged up.

I'll attach a picture of a carb for you to help. This is NOT your carb it is actually off a 1974 TX500, and the configuration is a little off, but it should help you a little bit. The pilot on yours is going to be about where I circled it in the picture (on this picture the pilot is actually under the black thing between the two I circled) but this should still help. The smaller one will most likely be plugged up. Goodluck!

Poor idle

It sounds like you have to take your carb apart and clean it or you will possibly need to rebuild it.
Make sure your air cleaner is clean.

On choke the idle is approx 1500rpm when the choke turns off the idle increases to 2000 to 2200. My car is a 1991 vitara 1600 16 valve auto

the choke linkage pull off is out of adjustment as well as thew choke thermostat always set that with engine cold

I just bought a 2003 suzuki intruder 1500. The bike idles well when it is cold but, after 5 miles of riding the idle is high when stopped at a redlight. If i put it in gear and release the clutch slightly...

(Manual Choke) Make sure that when the choke plunger is fully pushed IN (e.g. choke off) - that the choke cable is actually slack, if it is still tight then adjust the cable till there is a little bit of slack with the plunger pushed in.
(Auto Choke)Have you tried blipping the throttle, just give it a guick stab when it's warmed up and running, be quite sharp and deliberate with the throttle, this usually cancels auto-choke if it's working properly.
if not...
try setting the idle screw on the throttle body when the engine is hot, unscrew the screw to get the desired idle speed, then let it cool (fully cool) and see if it still starts and warms up ok with the new lower setting, either problem solved or back to square 1.. (reset the idle screw back to original setting, good idea to make a note of how far you unscrewed the screw in the first place :-)
check the accelerator cable(s) are not too tight, could be holding the throttle open slightly.
check the air filter/box to see if it is clogged... clogged filter=rich mixture...
Have the engine temp/air temp/oxygen sensors (if applicable) checked out at a garage, they could be causing problems also, but are £20-60 each, if one is faulty dont get bummed for labor charges, a temp sender is a bolt with a connector on it, fit with a ring spanner in 15 seconds, just get the garage to show you which one is broken first (just so you know ;-) then when they "offer to fit it for you" just ask for the part and fit it yourself - turns a £100 job into £20-60 job.
let me know how you get on. (The Engine Guy)
----------------------
Just check through everything in roughly this order, starting with "free" "easy" and moving onto "£20 - £60" - "annoying and niggly" - hopefully you get if fixed near the top of the list!
thinking... this is a great thumping engine - Are you using the correct grade fuel, try premium (97RON or better) if you've been on regular (95RON), some engines just don't like weak fuel especially big bike and performance car engines.

My bike started running bad. Only idles with choke

Recheck the float level, adjust if necessary.
Reblow the jets with compressed air.
If you have tampered with the air-mixture screw you will have to reset it too.
Standard setting is all the way in ...slowly as not to damage the tip, thn outwards 2 & a half turns to 3.
Hope this helps!
