As stated, the bike runs fine in neutral with the kickstand down or up, but once I put the kickstand up and go to put the bike in gear, the bike dies. It isn't a sputter, it just slowly winds down and stops running. I know for a fact it isn't the kickstand safety switch because we removed the original one and replaced it with a new one, and the problem still exists. Edit: It dies while the clutch is still in, so it definitely isn't stalling.
It sounds like the clutch is dragging,either it is not adjusted properly or the clutch friction or metal plates are warped and acting like wave washers.you should have about 2mm of free play at the end of the clutch lever when its not being pulled in.also too thick an oil in the engine in it like 20/50 it should be using 10w 40 semi synthetic oil.does it try to pull forwards with the clutch in slightly when you put it in gear ?

hi mate adjust the clutch cable when you put it into gears the clutch is still grabbing so it needs to be adjusted
SOURCE: Hi, i am currently having an issue with my 1993
I suspect that the kickstand wire is grounding somewhere (on the case, maybe??) (or the output shaft is frozen solid after two years but that is unlikely - if not impossible)

sounds like you need to replace the side stand switch. it's on the upper part ofyour kickstand.

The neutral safety switch has gone bad. It is inside the transmission case, which is beyond the skill level of most people. If you want to get a new switch, the Suzuki part number is: 37720-41F10. The part will probably run you about $80.00 USD.
Good luck and God Bless.

Test the side stand switch. Use a digital multimeter set to ohm. With the stand up it should show infinate(disconnected) with the leads connected one way and the stand up. Then switch the meters leads around and measure again. It should now read 0 ohm. If not replace the switch. If you cannot find or afford another switch bypass it using a diode connected as shown. Diode(1N4001) can be bought at your local electronics supplier/ TV repair shop. Do not connect the wires together directly.
S = switch
C = connector
Cut out the switch and connect the diode as shown with the banded part of the diode on the bl/w wire.
If the switch did not test faulty then the problem is with the sidestand relay located at the fuse box (in the left hand panel, below the clutch lever.) These are even harder to buy. Bypass by connecting the orange/black and orange/yellow wires together. This will render the sidestand interlock system inoperative and is not recommended if you're in the habit of forgetting the stand.

The kickstand switch was just replaced, and the output shaft can't be frozen because the problem started while I was out on a ride.
