Maby the old owner cut the pickup tube and you no longer have a reserve.

Sounds like the gauze filter on the end of the reserve tube is blocked

Fuel tank reserve capacity

Hi Kumud:
On my KLR 650 the reserve is 0.9 US gallons.
There's really not much point in worrying about "non usable" amount.
What I would recommend, especially if you're going to do any remote riding, is to strap a spare gallon (or 2) to your bike, then go for a ride. When you run out of gas, reset the trip meter to zero, turn on your reserve, and ride until you run out of gas again.
You will now know how far you can go on your reserve. That's the first important part.
Now put you spare gas into the tank and ride off to find a fuel station. Fill the tank, set the trip meter to zero, make sure the fuel selector is set to "ON", and go for a ride until you run out of gas again.
You will now know how far you can go on a full tank before you have to rely on the reserve.
If you use this system it won't matter what machine you have, and depending on your riding technique, the distances will vary.
Gotta love riding!
cheers.

Quits running at a half tank of fuel 2011 Hyosung GT250R

Sounds like the reserve lever on the petcock is not being used, Your petcock should have 3 positions, OFF , ON , RESERVE. Learn how to operate it!!
Reserve will allow you to run a few more miles to get to a gas station!!

Reserve tank not working

Are you turning the tap the right way as it sounds like you are running on the reserve tank all the time and when you turn over the tank is already empty.

No fuel to carbs

turn your fuel tank petcock to 'reserve'.
the fuel is fed thru a vacuum valve (opens to allow fuel to pass when running or turning over). fuel is delivered via gravity otherwise (tank is higher than the carbs).

My xjr1200 fuel petcock reserve is not working. when the tap is on it runs the tank dry without the reserve kicking in to action.

when the tap is in the down position it will only use fuel up to the reserve and you will need to turn the tap up to put it onto the reserve fuel.

2007 yamaha 350 raptor will only run on reserve

ive herd that some bikes have to be maintenanced if they run out of fuel while on reserve. I would check the owners manual for the reserve tank and see what needs to be done.

On my 1994 fireblade which way should the fuel tap face for normal tank compared to reserve? my fuel tap is long at one end and short at the other but which end is normal for fuel?

Start with the fuel tap (called a petcock) in the horizontal position. This is pointing toward the back of the bike, and it is in the "off" position. Turning it counter-clockwise to point up is "on," and turning it clockwise to down is "reserve."

Normally, you'll want to run the bike with the petcock set to on, and save the reserve for the emergency situation when you run out of fuel.

Hi ther my suzuki drz 400 s on a 03 plate has a problem its runing all ok but u would think the power band wont come in when u r riding it any ideas

The DRZ has quite a broad power band, you may not feel anything. If it revs right through its rev range, this may be normal

OXYGEN SENSOR OR FUEL PUMP?

Change the fuel filter, check the fuel pressure, then pull the tank and replace the pump if the pressure is below spec.
