Brake lights don't work, all other lights do

Both rear and top brakes lights don't work, I have checked and replaced the fuse and replaced the brake switch. Trailer lights work as well as all turn signals, 4 ways and tail lights.

I have a 1996 Monte Carlo, while checking things out for pending inspection recently 29000 miles, no accidents, the brake lights stopped working, went on line. The first page that came up was the exact issue.

Turns out the problem is with the turn signal wiring at the steering column lever. I briefly and lightly massaged the harness between my fingers where exits the steering column going to the turn signal lever. Brake lights started working. This after, taking a lot apart of course.

Found bulbs worked for all other light functions, turn, fourway, parking AND the third brake light in the back window also worked. Just no tail end brake lights.

It's the wiring between the turn signal lever and steering column. Haven't taken the harness apart where it exits steering column to the lever yet (happened last night) to see what the deal is with the wires in the area.

Did you check the fuses with a test light? A fuse can look OK, but unless you test continuity or use a test light, you could be mislead.

Brake lights don't work

check all electrical fuses first. the brake switch that is mounted on top of brake pedal arm underdash, may be bad or out of adjustment. this switch sends power to rear stop lights when putting on the brake. if bad there will be no power going to back lights. after fixing switch check the power to stop lights. if still no power check wires and the bulbs.

Brake lights dont work Bulbs are good and brake light switch is good

The power flow for the brake lights goes like this: Fuse ->Brake switch -> Turn signal switch -> Rear lights. The only difference is, if you have a 3rd brake light in your rear window, that gets its power directly from the brake switch. It does not go thru the signal switch first. So, if you are having a brake light problem, and your fuses are good, check the 3rd light in the rear window, if it lights up (assuming the bulbs are good, no one ever changes them), then the problem is most likely in the turn signal switch, hope this helps!

Fthe tail light works but the brake light doesn't work, it probably is the module that has a circuit board. I have replaced it 2 or 3 times on my 2004 XL Envoy ... can I get a part number and location...

First let's determine which brake lights are not working. Does the high mounted brake light work? Do both left and right brake light not work? If none of the brake light work, the problem could be the brake light switch at the brake pedal OR fuse #12 in the underhood fuse panel.
If only the bake lights at the corner lamp assembly don't work, check fuse #34 in the rear fuse panel.
The module your are referring to is the circuit board located in each of the corner lamp assemblies, check on website www.compnine.com for the part number of this item. I don't believe this is your problem though.

No brake lights check fuses no blown fuses but the center brake light work

If the center high mount brake light comes on when brake pedal is depressed, and the rear brakes don`t come on, and the fuses are not blown, then I would replace the rear bulbs.
