Bike sat for over a year. when I tried to start it, it would only run on one cylinder. And spark plug on the dead cylinder was dry@
SOURCE: will only run with full choke and absolutely no throttle.
Carbs gummed up. Need a serious cleaning or a full ruubers replacement/rebuild kit. Gas turns to gummy when left stting in the fuel bowls.
Use a couple of cans of Sea Foam.. best stuff in the world.

• The first thing to do with ANY engine that has sat for any longer
than a couple of months is to dump ALL the fuel in the tank and
carb(s). ALL OF IT !! You'll want to refill with some high priced fuel
that has fuel system cleaners (Like Chevron with Techron) not becasue
you need high-test fuel, but because you need the cleaners. It's ether
that or disassemble the carbs and clean out jets you can't find much
less see. Your choice. The carb kits alone will cost you about $50 so a
tank of high-test is looking pretty good, huh?
• Now the fact that you tried to crank the engine with old fuel has
fouled the sparkplugs. All of them. Go buy all new sparkplugs.
SOURCE: dies when hot no spark carb gets gas plugs are dry start when cool
It sounds like the coil getting hot and breaking down. Check for bad grounds also.
SOURCE: Bike starts, fuse blows
Remove the head light bulb, replace the fuse and thn start...see if the fuse will blow.
Check the head light wiring for short-circuit.
Hope thishelps!
SOURCE: i have 1974 yamaha dt 250 enduro the bike sat
clean contacts on points with sandpaper (800 grit). located behind flywheel, will gurantee a fix. you can remove the side cover and get to contacts through holes in flywheel without removing it.
