Light bulbs have been replaced. All other electrical works fine.Could it be in the thumb switch not connecting on the left side?
Hi pall......all is not lost its easy to fix...dont replace eney thing...yet....yuo need a simple relay switch....this will switch from left to right automatically......and aid the s.c.unit.....its a common problem with the s.c.unit ....so even if yuo get another yuo will have same prob.....i can send yuo compleat unit ....in cluding a simple wiring diagrame.....dont start byeing things yuo dont need.....as the electrics on the gs old school are all poo....ps if yuo yuo need help with eney electrical probs ...just ask...yuors mike.
If you don't have a multimeter, you can test the switch by swapping the left and right blinker outputs. The left lights should flash when you indicate right, and nothing when you indicate left (if switch is broken).
Clean the contacts in the light bulb housings front and back. That may be the fix you need. I had the same issue, and it worked for me.

SUBJECT: 1978 SUZUKI GS1000E TURN SIGNALS
THE RIGHT TURN SIGNALS DO NOT WORK, SWITCH IS GOOD AND WIRE HARNESS IS GOOD AS WELL, I HAVE LOCATED THE PROBLEM TO THE BLACK BOX THAT SITS BY THE BATTERY HOUSING (I DONT KNOW THE TECHNICAL TERM FOR IT, I THINK ITS CALLED A SELF CANCELING UNIT) THE HARNESS RUNS THROUGH THIS BLACK BOX, I WANT TO REPLACE THIS OR UPGRADE IT WITH A MORE CURRENT DESIGN. IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME SOME SORT OF OPTION IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT [email protected]
Yes it could be. Open the switch and check continuity between the input and output when the left directional is activated.
