SUBJECT: 1978 SUZUKI GS1000E TURN SIGNALS

THE RIGHT TURN SIGNALS DO NOT WORK, SWITCH IS GOOD AND WIRE HARNESS IS GOOD AS WELL, I HAVE LOCATED THE PROBLEM TO THE BLACK BOX THAT SITS BY THE BATTERY HOUSING (I DONT KNOW THE TECHNICAL TERM FOR IT, I THINK ITS CALLED A SELF CANCELING UNIT) THE HARNESS RUNS THROUGH THIS BLACK BOX, I WANT TO REPLACE THIS OR UPGRADE IT WITH A MORE CURRENT DESIGN. IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME SOME SORT OF OPTION IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT [email protected]

Yes it could be. Open the switch and check continuity between the input and output when the left directional is activated.

If you don't have a multimeter, you can test the switch by swapping the left and right blinker outputs. The left lights should flash when you indicate right, and nothing when you indicate left (if switch is broken).

Clean the contacts in the light bulb housings front and back. That may be the fix you need. I had the same issue, and it worked for me.

if the filiments are still intact and not blown in the bulb and the rear still works you probably have a rubbed wire rom the bulb to the blinker relay.

1981 Suzuki GS750 my horn, speedometer, tachometer and odometer all stopped working, i dont see a blown fuse and have no clue. Everything else is working fine electrically ??.. any help is apprecciated....

Arming yourself with a test lamp made from a 12volt bulb and some flex, Check on the ignition switch for power and chase it through up to your speedo. You will soon find the break.
Good luck.

Left blinker is fast front blinker light working left rear blinker light not working.

When a turn signal bulb is blinking fast, it is an indicator that a bulb is bad in the system. Replace the left rear turn signal bulb, then see if the left front blinker has gone back to normal. This is most likely your problem. Let me know if it is still a problem and i will help you fix it. Good luck

I have a 1995 suzuki savage ,, the person who had the bike before me removed the back blinkers to convert bike into a bobber ,, i put back blinkers back in place and wired them properly and they work fine...

check all the bulbs, make sure they have the same back. if the backs are slighty different or alot different they will send power back to relay in the wrong way, causing the problems u are talking about. if they are the same, u have a power wire grounding out from the rear signals.

1980 gs 1000 fuel petcock has two connections where do they go?

On the one that has two hoses does it still have an "Off" position? Usually petcocks that have two hoses, one goes to the carb vacuum, and the other is for a fuel supply for the engine. That way it only allows fuel to flow when the engine is running. I have found these to be a poor design and can often leak and allow fuel to run into the engine if your carbs are acting up. If the replacement only has one hose, then it will work fine, just be sure to cap off the vacuum port on the carb.
