The go away because of heat expansion-
check for low oil and then have the tappets adjusted

Sounds like typical mitsi tappets to me.. there are "non tick" ones you can buy otherwise just turn the stereo up abit more...this is a common problem for the mitsi lash adjusters and generally start to make a noise through lack of oil change and or hard abuse..

If only when engine is running, probably valve tappet noise. How many miles on engine? How often do you change oil and filter?

1996 Motorguide Brute 765 problems with motor and clicking head coming out from head

sounds like a hydraulic tappet ,try my trick as sometimes it works ,firstly add a 3 good squirts of fairy liquid to engine oil and a half litre of diesel ,has to be fairy and not a cheap brand by the way .Then run engine for a couple of days and the noise will lessen, then change oil and oil filter and use a diesel engine oil suitable for turbo diesel or petrol engines ,cheapest you can buy for this no fancy long life oil ,run engine on this oil diesel oil as it contains detergent and this will dissolve the clag inside the engine and the hydraulic tappet ,change oil 5/6000 miles and by this time it should have lost the noise ,then change oil regular max 6000 miles with a oil filter every third oil change and you shouldnt have any more probl?ems

My 2005 Honda Civic has what I think is a tappet noise for about 5 minutes when first driving off with a cold engine. There is no tappet noise when starting and letting the car idle before driving away. ...

indicates a problem hydraulic cam followers leaking down when let sit for a time
they can be removed and checked with a leak down test but for the years and the mileage , it may be best to just replace them with new units

On my 1994 L200 3000 mitsubishi there is a tappet which has stuck and is rattling, can you help.

Mits are well know for top end noisedue to hydrolic tappets. Note we are talking about a tapping or clicking sound here not a knock. You can try using an engine flush product if the noise is bad and then changing your oil. Follow manufactures instructions on the engine flush product. I have also used Marvel Mystery Oil (available at Walmart and most auto parts houses) with some success on this. Generally if the oil is not changed regularily eventually the tapping noise starts happening. FYI: hydrolic tappet can and do fail but generally the noise is associated with not maintaing oil changes

There is a clicking noise ( raises and lowers ) when idleing . someone thought it was a cam noise

hi this could be a cam noise, but also can be a tappet noise, if you have not changed the oil in a while it could be the oil has gone thin and needs new oil, the other thing is, blocked hydraulic tappet's, best way to sort this is to use an engine flush which you add to your old oil, run the engine for half hour, then drain, then refill with new oil, do not use 15w/30, try using 20w40 this is a thicker oil and will possibly silence the tappet's, but if the engine has done allot of miles these may need replacing altogether.....hope this helps

Tappits noise

If it is a tappet noise, it is caused by sludge in the lifters. "Rislone" added to the oil will usually clean and clear that up in a few hundred miles

2001 Eldorado "tappet" noise

You did good at noticing the noise. Depending on the price and the condition of the car I would say you did the right thing. Due to the fact that they could say it is only a rocker arm or whatever but, once you open it up you are committed to the repairs and could be opening up a big can of worms. This is due to milage and you don't really know how well the car was taken care of. Smart move covering yourself Good Job!!!

Tapprt noise 85 subaru

those have a non adjustable lash adjuster that can be very pesky to keep pumped up . I have had to replace oil pumps and even the lash adjusters themselves. I have got them pumped up before by simply installing a very watery graphite additive to the oil("lifter quiet" I believe the product was called) and running the motor under load to the tune of about 4000 rpm for 10 or more miles....good luck
