My '94 Jetta turns over but will not start.

Problems started when the engine would kind of cut out when i would push the gas peddle but only intermittently, and also sometimes it would not start and then suddenly would start and run almost perfect, other times it would start right up but run really really ruff (sputtering and smoking, rpm's irratic. Now it will not start up at all. The starter is turning the engine over and I believe the fuel pump to be pumping fuel as I can start to smell gas after a few seconds of turning the key. please help!

Sounds to me like either your in need of a tune up or there is a chance your crank position sensor is going out or finally gone.

2002 dodge ram won't start if you step on gas peddle before starting it. What causes this? If you wait a couple of hours it will then start

Fuel injected engines don't need to be pumped before starting, if you do flooding can occur. Make a conscious effort NOT to touch the pedal until after you turn the key to the start position and the engine actually starts.
