SOURCE: harley davidson battery went dead after riding

1.What?

2.What?
You charged the battery off of the battery charger with a trickle charge. The battery wouldn't charge while you're riding, because your alternator took a cr@p.
(Sorry if I seem gruff, but I'm an old biker, and Harleys are all I ride. I'm also a Harley mechanic.
Shhhh! I don't want that to get around! lol!)

3.Battery is at 13.4 volts now? What is the specific gravity of the acid in each cell? Don't have a hydrometer? Do you have a load tester? No? Since you measured the voltage, do you have a multimeter?

Test the voltage with the bike running. It should be around 14.6 volts when charging, less with the battery fully charged.
Don't get the correct reading, then you better look at alternator replacement. (Regulator is built in)

SOURCE: 2002 Dyna wide glide. Will not IDLE

not running for a year! You have a varnish buildup in the low end circuit of the carb. You will need to remove the carb and do a full teardown of the carb to properly rectify this problem. SOMETIMES we are able to free up the passages by putting SEA FOAM cleaner in the tank , fill her up with fresh fuel and ride through the tank and it will clear up. SEA FOAM can be purchased at an auto parts store and is sometimes very effective. 1/4 cup to full tank fuel.

SOURCE: 2003 HD Ultra Glide - Electrical Problem. Can't get it to start

thats basicly average lifespan for a battery-in the south anyway-bring it to a tester like auto zone to confirm itz old-12 volts is needed at all times because the ignition does not feed off alternator once started

2002 Harley-Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide. The engine LIGHT is ON.

Question edited for FULL maker and model name.
Question moved to correct category.

When you disconnected the battery, all the information stored in the ECU was lost. It has to learn everything again. The fault light was transient, it came on and went off. You only need to worry if it stays on.

2006 Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide no electrical power @

Hi, Bruce, this is the sort of electrical problem that is probably mechanical. In other words, a complete failure like this suggests there is a break in the wiring or a blown fuse. If nothing on the bike is working, but the battery is fully charged, there are not many parts of the bike that can cause that lack of power. I can only recommend starting at the battery and working your way along with the wiring, checking every connection, including the ignition switch. There is probably a broken connection or failed electrical part that should be obvious when you come across it.

2003 HD Low Rider. Went to crank and gas+oil

sounds like stuck needle valve if it's carbureted, letting the gas run into the engine filling it up,has to go somewhere if its full, you need to drain it out, don't try to start it,with all that gas in the oil it will not get proper lubrication resulting in engine damage.Shut off the fuel valve or it will continue to run into the engine.Hope this helps
