Location of gear shift over ride button
There is no "gearshift override button" If the gear shift cannot be moved from PARK whith the key on and the brake pedal depressed, turn the key to the LOCK position and remove the key. Then re-insert the key and turn it one "click" to the OFF position (if the instrument cluster lights up, you turned it too far). The shifter will then be able to move. Place the shifter in NEUTRAL and hold the service brake while starting the engine. The shifter can then be moved to any position desired. If it is placed in PARK, you will have to repeat the procedure to get it going again.
Also, you should check your brake lamps. The shift interlock is probably not working properly due to a problem with your brake lamp circuit.

This is probably due to a defective reverselock-switch located under the gearshiftlever.
dismantle the centerconsole (remove ashtray (2 screws) an take it out. the two screws pointing forward by the cigarettelighter socket (and opposite side) remove the cigarettelightersocket plate, remove two screws under this plate, open the armrestlid, in front of that compartment is a little lid that should be lifted, and remove the two screws there too. also remove the lid inder the handbrakelever (bend it slightly from side to side when lifting the loose end at the rear)
Disconnect the two miltisockets at the far front end of the console
Nw the tricky part. Secure the car (you need to shift gear to drive AND tinker with the handbrake)
Lift the center console at the rear end adjust the handbrake lever to let it slip through the hole it rests in, and keep lifting it until yu have it free from the place between the seats.
The switch is situated under the gearlever, and is easy to replace.
Assembly in the reverse order.
Be careful to put the top end of the carpets in to the console when putting it back in place.

Sounds like you need a new shifter assembly, or the brake switch. Most likely will be the shifter though if you can move it out of park with the override.
