Help my 1997 fprd expedition anti lock brake light came on stay on now

Have to get it into a shop and get the codes read,could be dozens of reasons.
However don't worry about the braking system,if the red brake lite is out
the abs lite means the anti-lock will not operate.But the base brakes will work fine.(you will be able to lock the wheels up if you hit the brakes too hard is all)

ANTI LOCK BRAKE LIGHT.MEANS ANTI LOCK BRAKES NOT WORKING.CHECK ABS FUSE AND RELAY.IF ALL IS GOOD.HAVE THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM CODE SCAN.NOT SAFE TO KEEP DRIVING.HAVE FIX QUICK AS POSSIBLE.BECAUSE THE ABS BRAKE UNIT IS PART OF YOUR MAIN BRAKING SYSTEM.IF ABS BRAKE UNIT BAD BY BEING PART OF THE MASTERCYLINDER IT CAN CAUSE COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE.

Your anti lock brakes have become history, the light is going to stay on, because the brakes are gone. You still have brakes, but you don't have the anti lock device. Most cars give out in the rear, and most people do not get them fixed, expensive. They just put tape over the light and drive. I took the bulb out of the dash, have never had a braking problem, been years. But I didn't tell you what to do, just what I did. Hope this helps.

If the theft light is blinking very fast it does not recognize the key, will have to go to a ford dealer

There is a problem with the ABS (Anti-Lock Brakes). Unless you have the knowledge to diagnose and repair this problem I suggest you seek help from a trusted mechanic or your Volvo dealer. Your ABS may not be working correctly but your normal brakes will still work.

try using a spare key first

Do your locks work on the SUV? Somethings the locks can set the anti theft off. But if your locks work then that means your the chip in the key is bad or its not reading the key at all. More than likely you will have to get a new key and have it reprogrammed. Dealer is the only place to get the key.

The anti-lock light is indicating that your anti-lock brake system has a problem. Check fluid level. Could be a sensor, time for brake service etc, but I wouldn't wait too long to have it checked, just in case something serious. Anti-lock brake problems may cause a wheel or more, or all, to lock up in a panic stop situation. When was last service on brakes done?

reset the computer by removing the positive battery cable for 10 mins.

It is most likely a bad front wheel speed sensor.Your sure abs rings were on back of rotors?It is going to be next to impossible to fix without getting the code with a scanner
