My 2000 MPV gets stuck in park. The parking gear will not light up to indicate the van is in park. Once the van is running for about 20 mins or more the parking gear light will come on and I am able to press the brake and put the van into drive. However when I turn the van off I have to wait at least another 20 mins or more and start the process all over again. What can I do to eliminate the issue.

It sounds like a shift lock solinoid ....this prevents the car from being shifted out of park when ur foot is not on the brake....u will have to bring this to a repair shop since the faulty part is located inside the paneling where ur shifter handle is

About 3 month ago my cousin's 2000 MPV lost transmission power when I tried to accelerate coming out of the street parking. I drove the van for about 3 minutes then I parked again and turned the motor off and on again. When I drove the van out the street parking the transmission worked fine and had no issues for about 2 months. Then the dash gear indicators went crazy, the markerson the dashboard started to jump from [D] to [N] and then both came at the same time and for moments it had 3 markers lite at the same time and the transmission didn't change gears when trying to speed up. I had the clicking noise under the dashboard and later on I couldn't shift from park to Drive but this didn't happened all the time, until one day the whole system fail and I had no electricity at the brake switch, at the fuse that protect the circuit and at the Relay under the dashboard. After reading some information about the same problem others had with this type of car I decided to replace the transmission range sensor or Neutral switch before doing any other work and soon as I replaced it everything started to work fine again. I got the switch from my local Autozone store for about $115.00 plus tax, I tried to find it on their web site without luck. Part number is: SAFETY SWITCH, Duralast F4062 It can be found online under this information too.

2000 Mazda MPV Starts & runs won't go out of Park Shifter handle moves won't change gears??

I had this issue in the past. All I did was to replace the brake switch. This part is located behind the brake pedal. Btw, if you this run into this issue again in the future, you can always push this switch with your finger and it's located on top of your steering wheel enclosure, this will disengage the shifter.there is a small rectangle shape cover that you need to remove first.

2008 Saturn Vue Stuck In Park. The car starts fine however when you try to shift out of park the shifter is locked up and won't budge. You have to restart the car multiple times to get the shifter...

these have a safety system so the shifter won`t go into any gear unless the brake is pushed(indicating someone sitting in the drivers seat),if the brake lights aren`t working this indicates that the fuse that operates the shift lock solenoid and brake lights is not working and needs replacing.check the fuses and replace the fuse and things will probably return to normal.

Will not get out of Park, there was a clicking sound under the dash, now it stays in Park. Something to with the neuteral safety switch?

Most cars have an interlock system which is to say that if you foot is not on the brake, it wont come out of park, the clicking under dash im thinking was the soleniod which releases gear shift and if that failed or the latch is not releasing, it will stay stuck in park.

My freinds van will not shift, into a higher gear. it seems to be stuck in a lower gear. i test drove it to see.. lever seems to select the right gear..starting from p r n od no problem there. Enroute ,in...

The transmission has gone into safe mode. This means that something is wrong, most likely the shift solenoid. I had the same model van do the same thing. It's not a terribly expensive item to have fixed.

Check the fluid to see how the level is being maintained once the van has been running for about 20 minutes. Keep it running, put it in park with the parking brake on and check the level. If it's okay, then it is probably the shift solenoid. Good luck
