Dear Sirs, I own Pathfinder 2006. Recently Oil goes out from MAX mark to MIN mark within 8000 km (5000 miles). My dealer tells me that this is regular consumption which is confirmed by NISSAN officials. Could you please confirm it, because for me such a consumption looks absolutely enormous. Warmest regards, Konstantin

That amount of oil is on the high side, I would change the oil and oil filter every 5000 km on short hauls , has the engine been over heated or has a big mileage been clocked up. some times the valve stem seals get hard and let oil enter the cylinder, coast down a hill then accelerate while watching for blue smoke ,blue smoke indicates engine ware.

  • Well MAX to MIN on the dipstick is a quart of oil in difference. You need to have the oil changed every 3,000 miles (5,000 miles for a synthetic). I don't think that a 2006 Nissan should burn a quart of oil every 5,000 miles. That seems a bit absurd. For much older vehicles this might be true but for a 2006, much more efficient vehicle, it should not burn a quart every 5.000 miles.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

If your truck is over 75,000 miles on it you may want to switch to a High Mileage Oil. Do you notice any oil seepage on the engine? For the dealer to say "it is normal" it is not. However if you have some oil seepage around the engines seals then it may burn some extra oil. But for the engine to be in perfect condition and burn a quart of oil, no.

    Tony

How many miles can you can run with the oil transmission?

I couldn't find the manual for the 2005, the 2006 says the automatic transmission should be inspected every 24,000 km (15,000 mi) and changed every 60,000 km (37,500 mi).
The manual transmission should be inspected every 48,000 km (30,000 mi) and has no recommended change within 180,000 km (112,500 mi) where the maintenance schedule ends.

Here is the owners manual for the 2006, the maintenance schedule is section 6 almost the very end.

2014 ram ecodiesel The dealer did an oil change 8000 km ago.I noticed the oil today on my interlock. Open the hood and see oil cap missing and oil at its min. What should I be worried about?

you should be OK if the oil is on the low mark, I would complain to the dealer big time no excuse for leaving oil cap off, demand a new filler cap and free oil change and filter. Then find a new shop.

Reset change oil light

hello, here is the instructions on how to reset the light

When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1000 km). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 3000 miles (5000 km) since last oil change.
To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:
  1. Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
  2. Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
  3. The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.
  4. Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE OIL lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox but no owners manual. There is a light on the dashboard that comes on that show a picture of a car with what looks like a tool in the center. Can anyone tell me what this...

I believe that would be your "maintenance due" light. Most GM vehicles as of 2005 or so have a program built in to the vehicles computer that will let you know when it is time for your normal service to be performed. It measures this by how many times the vehicle is started, how long it is run for, etc. Sometimes it will come on after 3000 miles, sometimes 5000 miles and sometimes more. GM says that once the light comes on, they recommend you have an oil and filter change and any other necessary work done within 500 miles of the light illuminating. On average the light will come on about every 5000 miles but it can go to 8000 miles. I would suggest no matter what that the oil and filter be changed every 8000 miles at most with regular and not synthetic oil. You can always do the service sooner than that. Transaxles should be serviced at 30,000 miles or less on front and all wheel drive models on the Equinox. Please rate me on this answer.

Changing engine oil every 5000 KM or every 2500?

The service duration is affected by many things.. If you are driving in a dusty atmosphere or doing a lot of high RPM but low gear driving, change the oil every 2500kms. if you do mainly highway driving with low rpm but top gear, change the oil every 5000 kms. As a rule, I always replace the oil filter at every oil change even though toyota says you dont have to.

I'm having the same problem with my 2006 pathfinder

I have a friend who has 2 of these trucks for company vehicles. Nissan put an engine in one at 45,000 miles. The other just blew a head gasket and cracked a piston at 90,000. Keep bugging dealer and keep records of your visits there. Or try another Nissan dealer.

How often do I change the oil in my new Lincoln MKX ...every 2000 km or every 5000 km?

The owner's manual calls for changing oil and filter every 7500 miles in normal service, or if driving in dusty conditions, offroad, or lots of low speed and idling (a taxi or maybe an unlucky commuter), go to the extreme service intervals of 5000 miles. Changing oil every 3000 miles is definitely NOT required.
