A couple of days ago my car started hesitating on accelereration and my engine light came on. I took it to the parts store and they read the computer and told me cylinder 3 was not firing properly. I was well overdue for a tuneup so I performed one and found the plug was bad. After the tuneup my car runs 10 times better but still hesititates occassionally on acceleration. What could be causing this? A fuel pump or filter? I did buy the plugs that do not need to be gapped. Could this be the problem? It is a 2004 kia optima lx 2.4L.

What is the trouble code. Maybe a sencer or compression problem have the trouble code read if you don't have a reader most parts stores have them and will help
If the CHECK ENGINE light come on, the PCM (computer car) have stored a fault code there; I suggest scanned this and note what fault code is there. Sometimes Autozone or AutoShop make this reader with OBD tools for free.
If you can please list the code that was read and also the symptoms for me I may be able to give more specifics on the code itself. As for a misfire in any cylinder I will lists some things that are indicative of this.
Spark Bad fuel injector
plug
Plug wire
Coil
bad 02 sensor
bad computer.
out of gas
bad catalytic computer
burned exhaust valve
poor compression.
Symptoms can be a hard to start engine.
Hesitation or bucking when accelerating.
A rotten egg smell from the exhaust can indicate a bad Catalytic Converter.
If it has been a long time since a tune up then plugs and wires may be in order.
Check engine light can be due to any problem related to engine. It may be a false trigger due to sensor problem but its always advised not to drive the car with check engine light and contact the service center immediately.
hi when the engine light come on engine computer detect problem in the engine. I would like to advice you to scan the computer it can be sensors. It can be EGR is blocked also air flow mas sensor.
Find a car-repair work shop which is using diagnostic equipment to solve problem.
Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins. This may reset the lights timer. If it comes back on within the next few days the take it to a large auto parts store and most will bring their computer out and hook it to your car and read the code the light will leave in your car computer, then they tell what the code says and try to sell you the part. You might car the auto parts store first and tell them what you have and ask if then can read your code for you.Its usually a free service.
U need to have codes read that are stored on the cars computer. The engine light on is an indication that something is not operating properly, and u confirm this by your description of the cars performance. U can have the codes checked for free at most car parts stores. The codes are read by a scan tool that is plugged into a port in your car and it reads the stored codes on the cars computer. The stores employees will tell u what the code(s) are, and suggest what should be done to correct the problem. Writer the codes down for future reference. Let me know how u make out.
