Most likely the starter wasnt the problem but rather the anti theft security that comes standard on these cars. It all stems from that chip in your key. When not funtioning properly, the SECURITY light comes on and the starter turns off to prevent theft due to not getting the correct signals to the computer. Look for the security light, if its there, then this is your problem. This site will help with info and DO IT YOURSELF solutions.

Where is the neutral safety switch located on my 2008 Jeep wrangler?

Sounds like you're starting at the expensive end and working backwards! First, check your battery, make sure it has a good charge. Second step is the starter solenoid. Some designs have external solenoids, some are internal. Third is the starter itself. Once you are sure all that stuff is good, THEN it's time to start looking for the neutral safety switch.

The check engine light is meaningless when the engine is not running.

Won't start

so stop guessing, buy an $10 voltmeter (walfart has one)
and do simple tests. all very easy, ask.
the first step is jumper cable starts, ! cranks/ pass/fail??????
my guess, this fails.
if my car dont jump start, (i can coast start my car)
i check battery voltgage, alhhhhhh 12.6vdc, good. 10v bad.
i then hot wire the starter solenoid.
dead, (or clicks) , starter bad, big cables to it bad,(x2) or engine seized. (or battery bad, blow 10v cranking is bad battery 99%
i hand turn engine by hand, it dont turn, it's seized.
it turns by hand; good.!
so lets say the hot wire test works (keys in pocket cranks but dont start now , because my keys are in my pockets for safety)

that means the KEY LINE Is dead (small wire to starter solenoid)
see here. works for all cars. (not hacked key lines, etc.)

1993 Infiniti g20

Lots of stuff !
#1 If you can ,try to start it in neutral.
#2 In park hold the key so start and have an assistant rap the
starter motor lightly with a bar or whatever(if that works the brushes
in the starter are going, starter time)
#3 turn on the headlights ,have your assistant watch, they should
be bright, then turn the key,if the lights stay bright,it's a fault of the
starter or key/ignition system. If the lights go dim or out it's just
a battery terminal connection.
A few things to try anyway, good luck.

I have a 2006 ford escape. When I turn the key to start the vehicle, it did not start. All my power is on but no clicking sound when I turn the key to start the car. Is it my starter or something else?

Safely secure the parking brake put a 12 Volt test light on the starter wires at the starter have someone help you by turning the key to the start position , if the test light lights replace the starter , if the test light don't light check your fuse if it is good replace the relay .

Car doesnt want to start. all lights come on when in the on position however when I turn it to start nothing happens it dont even try to turn over it just clicks 2002 hyundai xg350

The starting system consists of:
  • starter motor
  • starter switch, part of the ignition switch
  • starter motor solenoid relay switch
  • starter solenoid
  • starter drive
When you turn your key to start your engine, it just clicks, right? If so, more than likely this is due to a bad battery. Even though your battery may appear to be fully charged, it may have a dead cell, or worse. If you get a jump, does the vehicle start? If so, replace your battery.

Possible sources of the problem if the engine does not crank or the relay clicks:
  1. Battery
  2. Starter motor
  3. Starter motor relay
  4. Ignition switch
  5. Damaged fuse
  6. Anti-theft system
  7. Circuitry

Hi i have a 1984 colt 1.6 auto had starter notor rebuilt but can not get it to start all i get when i turn the key on is a clicking noise and after a few turns of the key i get nothing can you give me any...

If your battery is good, then check all of your connections. If they are all sound, then you may have a bad rebuilt starter. It happens. Go back to the parts store, rebuilder, or installer.

1997 Honda Accord, 4 cyl, auto trans. When I turn

The starter sit on top I belive on the passenger side above the transmission, have some one hold the key to start while you tap or even hit the starter some time it will crank over if it does replace it, not that big of a job. If it still dont start there a big wire that one comes from the battery and a small one that come from you ignition switch ( key ) jump those two wire's ( if stander transmission make sure you have it out of gear ) there should be voltage at big wire all the time, if it still dont crank over replace starter assembly.Hope this was very helpful.

The car does't start

I dont no what model good car you have but the problem you have if the starter just clicks and dosent turn over the engine its Either BATTERY is 50% nogood or the starter motor is poling (shorting inside) or rhe starter bendix isent throughing out or the solenoid is shorting inside OR the engine is siezed up,,,,, But i dont think its the engine so start off with
Turn on headlights ,then turn the key to start Does your lights go out or dim (if yes) jump start from another car ,, if it starts GOOD then battery isent any good,,.
If not and the starter still just clicks or clunks then the starter is faulty BUT before taking it off turn the engine over by hand just a little and try the key again, if no go then take the starter off and away for testing
Let me know how you get on have a goodday Ron
Theres more to check so keep in touch..

Ignition problem. Clicking from under the hood car doesnt start

Check those wires in the trunk if one of them had power to something you could be grounding something out, dont keave exposed wires exposed to any metal thers a battery drain, or your starter motor just went out, if you can check the voltage coming from the starter it should be close to 10volts, 10 volts is required to start an engine. Also chek the relays in Power Distribution Center (PDC) located under hood in upper driver side corner. You need to try to diagnose where all the power is being disipating to.

2001 Cadillac DeVille

The most probable cause for this is a an intermittent problem with the Starter solenoid and/or starter.

When the car does not respond to turning the ignition key on can you hear a click from under the hood?

If you can that is the starter solenoid trying to turn on the starter motor. I would say the starter needs to be replaced.

If you cannot hear anything, then the solenoid ( which is just a relay) is probably bad.

I just replaced my startere on my F150, starter & solenoid come as a unit.... cost about $125.

Hopes this helps good luck Loringh
