You most likely have to take a skid plate or cover off the underside of the truck to get to the drain plug.

I have a 1996 gmc serria 1500 4x4 v6 vortec manual I can't seem to find the oil plug for the trannie it seems to me it's part of the transfercase help

Most vehicles do not have an oil drain plug for the tranny...you have to drop the pan to change the oil. Make sure you install a new gasket when you put it back on.

Oil Change proceedure. Where is the oil pan drain

The drain plug will be at the lowest part of the oil pan. I would recommend you take it to a shop, if you cant seem to find it. If its not right, you can damage the engine, and thats a pretty big price for trying to save a few bucks.

Oil pan drain plug

The drain plug is on the back side of the aluminum oil pan, your going to have to use a 15 mm socket to remove the oil plug.
Good luck and here is a link to changing the oil for your escape if your have not done it before. http://fordescapefixit.com/oil.html

Overtightened oil drain plug

you could try a pair of stiltons on the sump plug. if the worst comes you could either weld a bolt to the sump plug (depending on what the plug is made of) or you could drill it out.

hope this helps.

The plug is on the underside of the engine oil pan, more to the back of the pan....if you've never changed the oil before..the plug looks like a nut....makw sure you run the car a little before draining the oil.
