I was told the PCM, coil pack and the catalytic converter in my 05 Escape was bad. I was quoted nearly $4k for the repair and the car is barely worth $6k? Any suggestions?

Absurd
Without labor your looking at a couple
hundred on exhaust and a hundred for coil
The pcm --doesn't sound right

I'am going to look on NAPA and get back to you

    Napa is site is down
    Anyway exhaust parts,O2 sensors,coil pack
even pcm, your under a thousand and an hour
to install plus the exhaust labor
Except for the exhaust, you can do all the other
stuff in a couple hours. at home. If you need a pcm, then
it would have to be updated.

My 2004 GMC Envoy all of a sudden started running very rough. Also has a bad smell like rotten eggs(catalytic converter smell but very strong) Very bad performance. Problem?

sounds like cat converter just about completely clogged and the back pressure from it is choking the vehicle causing the cylinder failure --the exhaust cant escape and will kill [stall] the engine--- with it running feel the exhaust coming out if there is barely any flow from tailpipe cat conv has failed [clogged ] and will need replacement -----when check engine light flashes it is to advise that u have a malfunction that needs immediate attention or further damage may occur and or vehicle shut down may occure

How can you tell which catalytic converter is bad on an 03 navigator

You have 4 oxygen sensors,1 at each exhaust manifold and 1 after each catalytic converters.Usually a scan tool won't pin point which sensor is bad.It can get real expensive just replacing parts. The easy and cheapest way to find out is take to dealer for oil change and they will scan it for free and tell you what is wrong and the cost, you have option,to let them repair or fix yourself, now you know what is wrong,I take my Truck to dealer for oil changes to get free scan.

Catalytic converter has plugged up twice in 3000 miles

Catalytic convertor fails due to oil burning, recent head gasket, improper fuel control, but plugging up at 3000 mile misfire surely plug it up when the vehicle is dumping gas in the catalytic, lean misfire ,running very rich due to a coolant temperature.Who is putting this on?I dont know what state you are from,a catalytic should not be installed unless the vehicle is in proper fuel control.and whoever installed this should foot the bill. You need to claim warranty regardless and plus there is a EO# that must match the vehicle.

05 Ford Escape, coils #3 & #4 not firing. We've replaced the battery, spark plugs, alternator, coil packs, & pcm. Had pcm reflashed. Garage said it had to be coil packs, but just replaced coil packs 3

Check engine light on ? Code's ? What engine ? 2.3 l 4cylinder or 3.ol v-6 This vehicle has coil on plug ignition system , not coil packs ! a coil per cylinder . If new coils an still has no spark , has no B+ voltage to the coil or the PCM isn't controlling them . Without testing i'd only be guessing as to the problem .If the repair shop you had it to can only say it had to be the coils , I'd find another shop to take it to !

2005 Ford Escape, emission light on. Had tested and read coil D misfiring or something. Had front 3 coils changed. Emission light still on, car does not have a lot of power, struggles to go up the smallest...

bad catalytic converter. The three coil's an spark plug's in the back ,under intake manifold . If the spark plug's on these coil on plug ignition systems don't get replaced the plug gap get's to wide an then the spark can not jump the gap . Shorts out the coil , find's shortest path to ground an it goes into the PCM an fries the computer . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop

I have a problem with Ford Escape stalling or running rough @ idle everytime it rains. was told it could be catalytic converter.

LEAKING BAD SPARK WIRES OR YOUR COIL PACK GETTING DAMP.IF YOU HAVE 3.0L ENGINE. COIL PACK ON BACK OF ENGINE.IF YOUR LOWER COWL SEAL IS MISSING WATER CAN RUN DOWN THE COWL WHERE SEAL SUPPOSE TO BE CAUSING WATER TO RUN BACK OF ENGINE DAMPING YOUR COIL AND WIRES.BAD PLUG WIRES WILL CAUSE PROBLEM WHEN IT RAINS.

Catalytic converter shot

3 front coils? Ignition coils? If the engine had a miss for a long time the excess fuel can ruin a catalytic converter.
